2 Million? No, Just 200! So I Fled With My Twins Chapter 07

A few days later, Corin launched a full financial audit inside the company. What it turned up was even uglier

than anyone had guessed.

Nyx hadn’t only pocketed three years of child support meant for me. She had also funneled the whole 500

thousand divorce settlement into an offshore account she controlled.

On top of that, she had siphoned off millions of dollars in company money and booked it as medical bills for

the kids or overseas investments.

Worse, for three years she had been quietly winning over longtime employees, planting her relatives in key departments and collecting the company’s trade secrets. Once her position was secure, she planned to hollow out the Nightstalker Group and take Corin’s place.

The day Eleanor heard everything, she was so furious that she passed out on the spot. She spent a whole week in the pack medical center.

When she came to, the first thing she did was make Corin turn Nyx and every relative involved over to the Grayhaven Police Department.

The day after she was released from the medical center, Eleanor showed up at my door herself with bags of groceries and vitamins for the kids.

She was humble now, with none of the airs she used to put on as the family matriarch and former Luna.

“Morgana, I was a foolish old woman. I didn’t look into the facts, I believed one side of the story, and you and

the kids suffered for it.”

“The police took Nyx away, and everything’s out in the open now. Corin knows he was wrong, and he’s been beating himself up about it every day. The Nightshades need these two heirs. Please bring the kids home.”

“I’ve lined up housekeepers and drivers, and I’ve already gotten the kids into the best private preschool in the territory. You won’t have to lift a finger. You can go back to being Luna.”

I didn’t let her in. “Mrs. Nightshade, let me stop you right there.”

“The kids and I have been doing fine these three years. We didn’t suffer. Running a food truck is exhausting,

sure, but I earned every cent myself, working dawn to dusk, and I sleep like a baby at night.”

“When Corin swore up and down that I was a gold digger and wouldn’t even believe the kids were his, not one

of you stood up for me. Now that Nyx is gone, suddenly you remember they’re his kids?”

“Go tell Corin my lawyer is coming after every penny of child support he owes. But if he thinks I’m bringing

the kids back to the Nightshades, he can forget it. Not in a million years!”

Eleanor’s face went red, then white. She tried to keep arguing, but I didn’t give her the chance. I shut the door

in her face.

But starting that night, I noticed something off around the food truck plaza. Somebody in a baseball cap kept hanging around, never too close to my truck and never too far, their eyes always drifting to the kids.

Customers from all kinds of packs came through every day, and the air was thick with grill smoke and cooking smells. On top of that, whoever it was had masked their scent with a blocker, so I couldn’t place

them.

At first, I didn’t think much of it. I figured it was some curious customer. Then I turned my back to grab a box

of chicken from the cooler, and Dorian started crying.

I whirled around. Someone in a baseball cap was dragging Dorian toward a van at the curb, and when the face under the brim came into view, it was Nyx. She was out on bail and had wasted no time finding us.

Isolde stood nearby, sobbing in terror. She wanted to pull Dorian back but was too scared to move.

I bolted toward them, but before I had taken two steps, Corin got there first and put himself in front of

Dorian.

He had come to see the kids, and he had barely parked when he walked into this. He yanked Dorian behind him and shoved Nyx away with his other hand.

Nyx’s eyes went wild. She pulled a silver knife from her pocket and slashed at him. Corin threw up his arm to block it, and the blade sliced his forearm. Blood sprayed, and the silver burned along the wound.

Corin didn’t back off an inch. He stepped forward, pulled Dorian in tighter behind him and roared, “You’re out

of your mind!”

The vendors nearby heard the commotion and came running, and someone called the police.

Nyx saw she couldn’t get away and came at me with the knife, but a few werewolves who had rushed over to help pinned her down. The police got there fast and hauled her away.
