Mafia Princess Faked Amnesia, Learned the Truth, and Never Returned Chapter 08

Even the lawyer laughed out of anger at that shameless speech. “I’m sorry, I don’t understand what you’re

saying.”

“Please pass along a message to Mr. De Luca.”

“He must refund, to the penny, every cent Miss Bellini invested, within three days.”

“Otherwise, we will take legal action to protect her rights.”

The call was cut off. My mom stared blankly at Luca. “He… he said Elena is going to sue you.”

“I had a moment of weakness back then. I felt sorry for Isabella, so I privately changed the ownership of that

building and transferred it to her. It’s only right for Elena to seek legal protection.”

Luca’s grip on his phone tightened. “If it weren’t for me being foolish back then, taking advantage of her amnesia to admit my relationship with Isabella, Elena wouldn’t have suddenly gone off the grid.”

“I’m going to find her!”

Isabella grabbed his arm. “But we agreed to file our marriage license this afternoon.”

“It’s already four o’clock now.”

“We’re not filing.” Luca shook off her hand, his expression cold.

“Back then, when you were in a bad mood, you cut off contact with everyone on a whim, without a word.”

“Elena was so frantic she searched for you all day and night without sleeping.”

“Now she’s gone missing, and she might even do something stupid to hurt herself out of despair.”

“And you’re still thinking about filing?”

Isabella’s face went pale, and she stammered, “I… I just think Elena is emotionally stable. She definitely

wouldn’t do anything rash.”

“Besides, she’s already hired a lawyer to sue you. What could happen to her?”

“You’re not her.”

“You’ve never experienced the pain of being betrayed by your own parents, your boyfriend, and your most trusted best friend all at once.”

“So you have no right to say whether she’s doing well or not.”

My mom stood to the side, her expression ashamed. For the first time, she didn’t rush to defend Isabella.

But Isabella was right about one thing. I’d never thought about dying just because of their betrayal. On the

contrary, elsewhere, I was building my own empire.

A bank transfer notification popped up on my phone. Today’s message from Luca was: [Elena, take me off your block list. I just want to make sure you’re doing okay.]

When it came to settling the assets with Luca, he eventually agreed to pay me back in installments. With

every transfer, he’d attach some boring line.

The first time, he asked where I’d gone. The second time, he explained that he hadn’t married Isabella.

The third time, he said our estate was still there. And today, it was the last payment.

It happened that the first deal I’d led my team to close in New Orleans was wrapping up smoothly. Maybe the

double win put me in a good mood.

I took him off the block list. I replied: [I’m doing fine.]

It was a lie, actually. When I’d first come here, I was not doing fine. I couldn’t get used to the accent here,

couldn’t stand the food here.

I was even isolated by a few senior subordinates in the family, who joined forces to trip me up.

Many nights, when I got home, I instinctively wanted to call Luca and pour my heart out.

But every time after I finished typing his number, I remembered, belatedly, that Luca had gotten together with

my best friend.

Even my own parents had hidden it from me, bustling around to help them plan their wedding. There was no

one in my corner.

Later, I adapted to life here. Those senior members who’d tripped me up were also purged from the ranks after repeatedly screwing things up. Life finally started getting better again.

This was the first time I realized that a person could live without anyone. Maybe even live better than before.

Luca had been left hanging for over a month. He finally got a reply from me. He was overjoyed and was just about to send a message, only to find that he’d been blocked again.
