Mafia Princess Faked Amnesia, Learned the Truth, and Never Returned Chapter 02

I took off the ring and held it out to Isabella. “Fine. I’ll give it back to you.”

“From now on, I won’t touch anything of yours.”

“You really don’t have to…” Isabella declined with her words, but obediently held out her hand toward Luca. The ring slid perfectly onto her left ring finger.

Luca was very pleased. “You picked out that diamond yourself. How can you just not want it anymore?”

My dad came in from outside with two bodyguards. “Elena, I’ve checked you out of the hospital. Pack up your things, we’re going home.”

I was taken aback. “But the doctor said I need to stay for a few more days of observation.”

“I arranged it.” My mom spoke up first. “Bella’s wedding is coming up. We can’t have her running back and forth between the hospital and the estate.”

“Besides, you can recover just the same at home. The security at home is much stronger than at the hospital. The people who attacked you haven’t even been found yet…”

Luca backed her up, too. “Bella can’t stand the smell of disinfectant in hospitals. But she’s come to sit with you every single day out of worry.”

“Can’t you show her a little consideration?”

I had a thousand things I wanted to say, but in the end, all that came out was one word. “Okay.”

In the underground garage. I gritted my teeth against the pain of my wound and instinctively reached for the passenger door. It wouldn’t open.

Luca had locked it from inside. He rolled down the window, his face full of mockery. “The passenger seat belongs to the lady of the house. You don’t even know something that simple?”

“You just promised you wouldn’t grab things from Bella anymore, and look how fast you broke it.”

“Old habits really do die hard.”

Isabella leaned over and kissed him on the cheek. “Elena’s a patient right now. The front is more spacious, so let her sit there.”

Luca tapped the other side of his face. “Kiss me again and I’ll agree.”

Isabella did as he asked. Ha. So in love.

My mom let out a sigh and tried to talk sense into me. “You saw that with your own eyes. Luca treasures Bella like the apple of his eye.”

“I know you like Luca. But there are so many good men in this world. You don’t have to set your heart on just one man.”

I unclenched the fist hanging at my side. I opened the back door and got in. “You’re right, Mom.”

“I was blind before and did a lot of foolish things. From now on, I won’t bother Luca — my sister’s fiancé — anymore.”

A man who betrayed me wasn’t worth fighting over. The moment those words left my mouth, the faces of everyone in the car changed.

The smile on Luca’s lips froze. Through the rearview mirror, he shot me a complicated look. I ignored him and asked back, “Why are you all making those faces?”

“Bella and I grew up together. There’s nothing wrong with me calling her my sister, is there?”

My mom nodded. “Of course there isn’t.”

My dad agreed, too. “It’s about time. You two grew up together, closer than real sisters.”

My sudden generosity left Isabella at a loss. She kept asking me to confirm, wearing a pitiful yet pleasantly surprised expression. “Elena, you really don’t mind me sitting up front?”

I sneered. “The way you say it, people would think I used to bully you.”

Luca got out of the car and gallantly opened the door for her.

“You’ve been bullying Bella all along, throwing around your status as the Bellini family’s Principessa. It’s just that Bella has a good temper and doesn’t hold it against you.”

“Before, you kept hogging my passenger seat because you get carsick.”

I did get carsick. Luca knew that better than anyone. He’d even specially stocked the car with motion sickness pills and patches for me.

How could someone who’d treated me so well choose to betray me?

“Don’t worry. That won’t happen anymore.”
