He Signed My Death, So I Left His World Forever Chapter 07

At the FBI field office in Chicago, Enzo sat behind one-way glass, his bloodshot eyes fixed on Nina in the

interrogation room.

He’d called in the last of his favors just to get permission to watch.

Inside, the harsh fluorescent lights washed everything in stark white.

Nina’s hair was a mess, and her usual air of superiority was nowhere to be seen.

The federal agent questioning her slapped a stack of evidence onto the table.

“Nina, you’re suspected of hacking into Aubrey’s vehicle control system and causing a serious crash.”

“Do you have anything to say for yourself?”

Nina jerked her head up, a wild look flashing in her eyes.

“It wasn’t me! I didn’t kill her!”

“It was Enzo! He told me to do it!”

Behind the one-way glass, Enzo clenched his fists so tightly that his nails dug into his palms.

Nina’s shrill voice echoed through the interrogation room.

“Enzo was sick of Aubrey a long time ago!”

“He said he was sick of Aubrey being Mrs. Rosetti. He couldn’t stand having her around!”

“The Rosettis adopted me! Enzo and I aren’t even related by blood! He hinted that if something happened to Aubrey, he could marry me!”

“I was just doing what he wanted! If you’re going to arrest someone, arrest him!”

The agent frowned.

“Do you have any evidence that Enzo told you to do it?”

Nina bit her lip anxiously.

“Yes! I have messages on my computer where he complained about Aubrey!”

“He said no matter what kind of trouble I got into, he’d always make it go away!”

“He’s the one behind the whole thing!”

On the other side of the glass, Enzo was trembling.

The sister he’d spoiled since childhood, the one he’d cared about more than his own wife’s life, was now

desperately trying to pin all the blame on him just to get a lighter sentence.

A low laugh escaped Enzo.

It grew louder and louder until he was laughing at what a fool he’d been.

He’d killed the only woman in the world who had ever truly loved him, all for someone as rotten as Nina.

He shoved the door open and strode into the interrogation room.

Nina froze when she saw him. Then she lunged toward him as though he were her last hope.

“Enzo! Get me out of here! I was making all that stuff up!”

“Tell them you forced me to write that code!”

Enzo kicked her away without a shred of mercy.

He looked down at her where she’d fallen, his expression filled with disgust.

“Nina, you disgust me.”

He turned toward the federal agent and pulled a USB drive from his pocket.

“Agent, this contains more extensive records of Nina’s crimes.”

“There’s evidence of her laundering money for the Rosetti family, hacking into federal contractors’ servers, and stealing confidential corporate information.”

Nina stared at him in disbelief.

“Enzo! Have you lost your mind?”

“If you hand that over, I’ll spend the rest of my life in federal prison!”

Ignoring her screams, Enzo calmly placed the USB drive on the table.

“I’m willing to testify under my own name.”

“I’ll cooperate with the investigation. All I want is for her to face the punishment she deserves.”

He turned back to Nina and looked down at her as she sat helplessly on the floor.

“You like playing games, don’t you?”

“Well, now you’ve got the rest of your life in prison to entertain yourself.”

He walked out without looking back.

Behind him, Nina’s desperate screams and curses filled the room.

Enzo stepped out of the FBI building and looked up into the blinding sunlight.

Suddenly, he covered his face and slowly sank into a crouch, overcome by agonizing sobs he could barely

force out.

“Aubrey… I’ve avenged you…”

“Please… Can’t you come back?”

I hovered among the clouds, watching him from above.

Then I looked away, completely unmoved.

His remorse came too late. I couldn’t have cared less.
