He Signed My Death, So I Left His World Forever Chapter 04

Late that night, the hospital room was eerily quiet. The only sound was my labored, uneven breathing.

My condition had become critical.

Fireworks burst into color outside my window.

As if doing me a favor, the System projected a virtual screen into my mind.

It showed an entire amusement park on Chicago’s lakefront that Enzo had rented out for Nina.

Beneath the fireworks, Nina beamed in a diamond tiara.

Enzo stood beside her, looking at her with open affection.

“Congratulations, Nina. You’re in the clear now.”

“Next time you feel like messing around with some computer system, I’ll buy you a whole company to play with.”

He held a flute of champagne, his voice impossibly gentle.

Watching them, I realized I didn’t even have the energy to scoff anymore.

The hospital room door suddenly flew open.

A nurse making her rounds took one look at me and screamed.

“Doctor! We need help! Bed three is going into shock!”

The hallway erupted into chaos.

A crash cart was wheeled in, and harsh medical lights flooded my face.

“Her condition is worsening!”

“Get the emergency team!”

The doctor’s frantic shouts reached my ears as though I were hearing them underwater.

“Where’s her family? Call her husband and tell him she’s critical!”

The nurse frantically dialed Enzo’s number.

On the System’s screen, I watched his phone buzz in his pocket.

His phone lit up with an incoming call from the hospital.

Nina leaned over to look at the screen and pouted.

“Enzo, Aubrey’s crying wolf again.”

“She’s just mad you took me out tonight instead of staying with her.”

Enzo scoffed and declined the call without hesitation.

The nurse tried calling again.

“The number you’re calling is currently busy.”

He’d blocked both my number and the hospital’s.

“He’s blocked the hospital’s number!” the nurse cried.

“Keep going! Don’t stop!”

I watched them struggle in vain and gave the System one final command in my mind.

“System, press Enter for me.”

[Command confirmed. The scheduled email is locked in. The evidence will go public across the internet in 72 hours.]

[Host, complete loss of vital signs is imminent.]

With the last of my strength, I turned my head toward the window.

One final firework bloomed against the night sky before fading into darkness, just like my ridiculous seven-year marriage.

The monitor went flat.

A long, piercing tone shattered the silence.

Then, all at once, my body felt weightless.

[Mission complete. The male lead’s mistake has brought this worldline to an end.]

[Exit sequence initiating. Please stand by.]

I slowly opened my eyes and found myself floating in the hospital room.

Below me, the doctors pulled a white sheet over my body.

“We’ve lost her.”

“Time of death, 2:14 a.m.”
