A man in a white coat stood next to her.

“Your husband has severe bipolar disorder and significant signs of schizophrenia.”

“He’s highly aggressive and poses a danger to himself and others.”

“He needs immediate involuntary psychiatric commitment.”

The doctor handed her a document.

Wren signed it without hesitation.

“Thank you, Dr. Cole.”

“His father just passed away, and he’s clearly been pushed past his limit.”

“Give him the best medication you have.”

“Make sure he doesn’t get out and hurt himself.”

I desperately pulled against the restraints around my wrists.

“Wren!”

“Let me go!”

“I’m not sick!”

Wren walked over and looked down at me.

“Sylvan, you’re very sick.”

“Stay here and think about what you’ve done.”

“When you’re better, I’ll decide when you can leave.”

I stared at her.

“You locked me in this private psychiatric facility because you’re afraid I’ll expose you!”

“You should go to hell!”

She let out a cold laugh.

“Believe whatever you want.”

“This is the most remote psychiatric facility in the suburbs.”

“Without my signature, you’ll never see the outside of this room again.”

Every day, someone came to inject me.

I heard nurses whispering in the hallway.

“Poor Mrs. Novak,”

“Her husband has completely lost it, and she still pays his medical bills every month.”

“I heard Wren is about to become the next state bar association president.”

“Her husband losing his mind right now… such bad luck.”

Everyone said I was the one dragging Wren down.

But what about Wren’s infidelity?

What about her affair with Auden? Or the fact that she skipped my father’s trial and got him killed? Or that

she had me locked up in here?

Who was going to feel sorry for me?

I dug my nails deep into my palm, forcing myself to stay lucid.

I had waited for three years.

Finally, during one of my outdoor breaks, I found my chance.

Using a metal spoon I had secretly hidden away, I slowly pried open the broken vent.

I wanted revenge.

I wanted them to pay for everything.

But who could I turn to?

Call the police?

Wren had my psychiatric diagnosis.

The police would only send me back here.

Then a name flashed through my

mind.

Marcus.

He was my closest friend at Grayhaven University.

Now, he was a judge at Grayhaven Superior Court.

With shaking hands, I dialed the number I had memorized countless times.

The phone rang for a long time before someone finally answered.

“Hello?”

“Marcus…”

“It’s me…”

“Sylvan.”

There was a brief silence.

His voice turned tense.

“Sylvan!”

“Where the hell have you been?”

“Wren told me you disappeared after suffering a breakdown!”

“I was locked inside a residential psychiatric care facility!”

“Marcus, you have to help me.”

“I need to expose everything she did!”

Marcus lowered his voice.

“Don’t panic.”

“Where are you?”

“I’ll drive over and get you right now.”

I gave him the address of the abandoned industrial park in Eastbridge.

After hanging up, I leaned against the glass.

For the first time in three years…

I finally felt a small spark of hope that I could survive.

Half an hour later, a black car stopped outside the abandoned factory.

I was about to rush out.

Then I suddenly stopped.

The car door opened.

Marcus stepped out.

Then someone else got out of the passenger seat.

The moment I saw that person, I froze.

Why was she here?
