My Wife Sent Me to a Psych Ward, So I Gave Her a Big Surprise Chapter 05

It was Wren’s assistant.

Marcus took out his phone and dialed.

My phone started vibrating inside my pocket.

I didn’t answer.

Marcus turned around and said to the assistant, “That’s weird. He’s not answering.”

“Wren said we have to get him back to the residential psychiatric care facility before tonight’s award

ceremony. Nothing can go wrong.”

The assistant handed Marcus a thick envelope.

“Don’t worry. The position Wren promised your wife will be officially approved tomorrow.”

Marcus took the envelope and smiled.

“Poor Sylvan. But he got in Wren’s way.”

The friend I trusted more than anyone…

Had become Wren’s accomplice.

I wanted to run.

But they caught me and dragged me back.

And now…

Three years had passed.

Wren would never know what those three years had taught me.

And tonight, in front of every reporter and every camera…

I was going to give her a surprise she’d never recover from.

“Let’s begin.”

Tonight, the entire venue was reserved for the city’s annual legal excellence awards.

I waited until the janitor wasn’t looking, then grabbed a uniform.

I put on the mask and cap.

Pushing a cleaning cart, I walked right in like I belonged there.

The banquet hall was breathtaking.

The giant screen displayed Wren’s entire legal career history.

“An Undefeated Trial Lawyer.”

“A Defender of Justice.”

Every title sounded painfully ironic.

I hid in the corner and watched Wren hold a wine glass, accepting congratulations from everyone around her.

Auden stood close beside her in a custom tailored suit, looking like he belonged there.

“Wren, congratulations. I heard you’re not only receiving the biggest award tonight, but you’re also

announcing that Auden is officially becoming a partner at the law firm?”

A man beside them asked.

Wren hugged Auden.

The two of them looked happy.

“Auden is talented, and he deserves this.”

I pushed the cleaning cart closer to the stage.

The host’s excited voice echoed throughout the hall.

“Next, please welcome this year’s recipient of the legal excellence award…”

“Wren Quinn!”

“And please welcome the rising star of the legal world, Auden Vale, to join her on stage!”

Thunderous applause filled the room.

Wren held Auden’s hand as they walked onto the stage under the flashing cameras.

A staff member carried over the heavy trophy.

Wren accepted it and lifted it toward the microphone.

“I want to thank the state bar association for this recognition. Throughout my ten years in this profession,

I’ve always believed that There’s a line that must never be crossed. Justice will always prevail.”

“And tonight, I want to give a special thanks to the man standing beside me, Auden. He represents the purest

force in our legal field.”

The applause erupted again.

Just as Auden smiled and reached for the microphone, I pulled off my cap, tore away my mask, and grabbed

the microphone from the control panel beside the stage.

“Wren!”

“The justice you keep preaching about…”

“Is this what it looks like?”

“A career built on my father’s death and your dirty little games?”

My low voice, filled with rage, echoed through the entire venue.

The banquet hall fell completely silent.

Every spotlight turned toward me.

I stood there in an oversized janitor uniform, with the striped patient uniform from the private psychiatric facility visible underneath.

My body was painfully thin, and my short hair was messy and unkempt.

The moment Wren saw my face clearly, all color drained from her face.

The trophy almost slipped from her hand.

“Sylvan?!”

Auden stepped back in shock and immediately hid behind Wren.

Wren was the first to react and shouted toward the crowd.

“Security! Get this lunatic out of here!”

I reached into my pocket and slowly pulled out the blood–stained USB drive.

I raised it high above my head.
