My Wife Sent Me to a Psych Ward, So I Gave Her a Big Surprise Chapter 03

I grabbed my phone and called Wren over and over again.

Her phone was off.

I called her assistant instead.

“Where is Wren?”

“Why isn’t she here yet?”

The assistant hesitated.

“Sylvan… Wren, she…”

“She went to the traffic division.”

My mind went blank.

I gripped my phone tightly and shouted.

“Why the hell is she at the traffic division?”

“Today’s my dad’s trial!”

The assistant’s voice trembled.

“Mr. Vale got into a drunk driving accident last night.”

“The victim is demanding a house as compensation, and they want him detained.”

“Wren rushed over there overnight to handle it.”

I was shaking with anger.

I couldn’t hold it back anymore.

“Tell her to get here right now!”

“Auden’s mess matters more than my dad’s life?”

“Sylvan…”

“Wren said your father’s case had overwhelming evidence against him.”

“Even if she missed the trial, they could appeal later.”

“It’s not the end of the world.”

“But Auden is a public figure.”

“If he gets detained, his career will be ruined.”

The phone slipped from my hand.

The judge banged the gavel.

“Court is now in session!”

For the next two hours, I went through the motions like a walking corpse.

The opposing attorney twisted every word and pinned every charge on my father.

There was no defense attorney there to challenge the evidence.

It was already over.

“The verdict is as follows.”

“The defendant, Damon Novak, is found guilty of contract fraud and sentenced to ten years in prison.”

Boom!

My father, sitting on the defendant’s bench, clutched his chest and collapsed.

“Dad!”

By the time the ambulance arrived, he was already gone.

Seven days later, Wren finally showed up.

She wore a perfectly tailored black business suit.

Dark circles shadowed her eyes.

“Sylvan, I’m so sorry for your loss.”

The moment she stepped in front of me, I raised my hand and slapped her with every ounce of strength I had left.

Slap!

The sharp sound echoed through the funeral hall.

Wren’s head snapped to the side.

A thin line of blood appeared at the corner of her mouth.

“Wren, you heartless bitch!”

I lost it.

But she only turned back and looked at me coldly.

“Sylvan, Are you done?”

I laughed in disbelief.

“What?”

“Because you chose that man over my dad, he’s dead!”

Wren wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth, her expression full of impatience.

“I already told you. It was an accident!”

“Auden hit someone, and he was completely shaken.”

“If I hadn’t gone, he would’ve gone to jail!”

“Your father had a heart condition.”

“Why didn’t you request a delay ahead of time?”

“We could’ve appealed.”

“So now you’re blaming everything on me?”

I rushed forward and grabbed her by the collar.

“Screw you!”

“Stop making excuses!”

“You’re the defense attorney!”

“The second you skipped that trial hearing, my dad was done!”

Wren shoved me away.

“Sylvan! You’re being ridiculous!”

“Your father got caught because he did something wrong.”

“That’s not on me!”

“The fact that I was willing to clean up this mess for him was already more than enough!”

I lay on the ground and stared at the woman I had loved for five years.

At that moment, I had never been more disgusted by anyone in my life.

“Wren, I’m going to report you to the state bar association!”

“I’ll make sure you lose everything!”

Wren looked down at me.

She brushed off her clothes, her eyes filled with mockery.

“Go ahead.”

“Let’s see whether the state bar association believes a senior partner like me…”

“Or a man who’s clearly lost control.”

She turned around and walked away.

That night, Auden sent me a voice message.

That was what finally broke me.
