He Called Me Dirty, He Was The One Cheating Chapter 07

Damon stared at the court summons on the desk.

The name “Elena Sterling” on the page had become unbearably glaring. She was going to take back everything that belonged to her.

For the first time, Damon’s composure cracked.

In New York City, the late autumn wind already carried à biting chill.

I stood at the floor-to-ceiling window of Hale Capital and watched the traffic flowing

endlessly below.

I had cut my waist-length hair into a short bob. The ring mark that had sat on my ring finger

for three years had also started to fade.

“What are you looking at?”

A warm cup of coffee appeared in front of me.

Jonathan Hale stood beside me in a well-tailored casual suit, a gentle smile at the corner of his

mouth.

He was my college senior and a partner at Hale Capital.

When I left Chicago, he was the first person to meet me at the airport. He arranged my housing

and invited me to join Hale Capital.

“Just watching which way the wind’s blowing in Chicago.”

I took the coffee and sipped it. Bitter, then faintly sweet.

“Sterling Corp’s cash flow already has cracks.” Jonathan glanced at the tablet in his hand, his

tone calm.

“Your legal team is very good. Damon should be drowning right now.”

I lowered my eyes and stared at the brown liquid in the cup. “He owes me this.”

Jonathan turned and looked at me with deep, searching eyes.

“Elena, have you really let go?”

I lifted my head, met his gaze, and smiled. “Jonathan, a person who’s already died once won’t

choose to die a second time.”.

After work, Jonathan insisted on driving me back to my apartment.

We walked out of the office building side by side, talking and laughing.

“What do you want for dinner? I heard a new Japanese place just opened nearby. The food’s supposed to be good.” Jonathan opened the passenger door for me.

I was about to answer when I caught sight of a familiar figure out of the corner of my eye.

Damon.

He stood in the cold wind in a thin trench coat, staring hard at me and Jonathan.

His face was pale. His eyes were shot through with red veins. Even a shadow of stubble had grown along his jaw.

He looked nothing like the polished, self-important man who usually looked down on the

world.

When he saw me looking, Damon strode toward me. His glare looked like it wanted to burn a hole through Jonathan. “Elena, come home with me.”

He walked up and reached for my wrist. I stepped back and avoided his touch.

Exactly like he had done to me for the past three years.

Damon’s hand froze in midair. A flicker of shock and humiliation crossed his eyes.

He took a deep breath, forced down his anger, and turned to Jonathan.

“Who are you?”

Jonathan stepped naturally in front of me, shielding me with his body.

“I’m Elena’s friend. And her boss.”

“Friend?” Damon let out a cold laugh and turned his gaze back to me.

“Elena Sterling, you’ve got some nerve. You ran off to find another man?”

His words were a poisoned thorn, aimed by habit to wound me,

Before, I would have scrambled to explain, terrified of being misunderstood.

But now I only found it ridiculous.

I looked at his face, twisted with jealousy, and spoke calmly.

“Who he is has nothing to do with you.”

Damon froze. He looked like he couldn’t believe I would speak to him in that tone.

“Elena Sterling!” He gritted my name through clenched teeth.

“Don’t forget, we’re still married! You’re still my wife!”
