He Asked for a Divorce, Then Begged Me to Marry Him Again After I Moved On Chapter 17

Perhaps recognizing how demanding my work schedule was, Nathan always created a comfortable,

sygoing environment whenever he picked me up after work.

Occasionally, he would intentionally tease me to make me smile.

Someone who knew how to make a woman feel valued, while maintaining flawless boundaries with other women in his daily life, was impossible not to feel drawn to.

That afternoon, I wrapped up work early and went to Stanford to find him.

Walking down the familiar corridor to his office, I overheard a conversation inside that involved

“Are you officially dating that blind date of yours?”

“Not yet.”

Nathan set down his pen and looked at his colleague.

“You may refer to her as Ms. Bennett.”

“Fine, fine, Ms. Bennett. But if you aren’t officially together, why reject my dinner invitation?

Acting so devoted already.”

“I simply wanted you to meet my cousin. I didn’t say you had to marry her. Besides, her background

isn’t inferior to Ms. Bennett’s.”

Nathan leaned back in his chair, smiling faintly.

“Professor Zhao, maintaining clear boundaries during pursuit is just as important as during a

relationship.”

“It’s just a casual dinner…”

“Isn’t the underlying motive of such a dinner obvious to both of us?”

“If Ms. Bennett turns you down eventually, and you missed out on my cousin, you won’t have anywhere to complain.”

Nathan spoke in a calm, clear voice.

“At least I won’t have to regret being rejected for being half-hearted.”

I waited until Professor Zhao left before entering the office.

Nathan looked slightly surprised. “You finished work earlier than usual today.’

I tucked my hands into my coat pockets and tapped the floor with the tip of my shoe.

“Probably even earlier than you think.”

“How so?”

“For instance, I stood outside your door eavesdropping for a bit…”

Admitting to eavesdropping was somewhat embarrassing.

Nathan remained quiet for a moment. “So, you came here to turn me down?”

I snapped my head up. “How on earth did you draw that conclusion?”

“Because you haven’t looked me in the eye once since walking in.”

I looked at him, completely exasperated.

“Because eavesdropping felt awkward.”

“And because what you said moved me, and I felt a bit shy, okay?”

Nathan let out a soft laugh, gazing straight into my eyes.

“You’re adorable.”

I lowered my head again.

Because my face had flushed red once more.
