He Asked for a Divorce, Then Begged Me to Marry Him Again After I Moved On Chapter 08

Because of his assumptions, I made my boundaries even more explicit.

Unless absolutely necessary, I refrained from communicating with him even at the office.

Ethan was naturally happy with this arrangement.

As the New Year approached, Bennett Technologies grew increasingly busy.

We secured three rounds of venture capital funding.

While expanding rapidly, the company gained a prominent reputation in San Francisco based on

our performance.

Ethan’s net worth soared accordingly.

Still, there remained a clear gap between him and trust fund heirs like Brandon Miller.

Serena understood this reality far better than anyone else.

Just as we were about to wrap up work one evening, my assistant took a phone call and rushed over

to tell me in panic.

“Ethan has been arrested…”

What had happened to my mother previously roughly repeated itself with Ethan.

Brandon had already heard rumors about Serena.

Today, he caught Ethan driving her back to campus firsthand.

He broke up with her on the spot.

Serena grabbed his hand, begging him not to leave, but Brandon shoved her away, sending her falling to the ground.

Ethan stepped in and got into a physical fight with Brandon.

However, once they reached the police station, Brandon changed his story.

He insisted Ethan attacked him unilaterally and that he hadn’t fought back.

When I arrived at the station, Serena was being questioned.

Her eyes flickered nervously as she glanced at Ethan.

“It was him. He kept beating up my boyfriend…”

“My boyfriend didn’t hit back at all.”

Ethan sat on a chair in the corner with a cold, expressionless face.

After Serena finished speaking, a faint, silent smirk crossed his lips.

He stared at Serena for nearly half a minute before speaking up.

“Right. I hit him unilaterally.”

An officer called me to the side.

“That spot was a blind camera angle, so nothing was captured clearly. We’re still trying to locate

other evidence.”

“If we can’t find anything and he admits guilt like this, he’ll likely be detained for fifteen days.”

I rubbed my temples in frustration.

Next week, we were scheduled to meet with new prospective investors.

As our chief technology lead, Ethan needed to be present in person to demonstrate the app he developed, which was vital for securing their confidence.

I went over to reason with Ethan.

“You don’t need to take the blame for a crime you didn’t commit just to protect Serena.”

“Besides, next week-”

“Claire,” he interrupted.

Staring into my eyes, he asked quietly.

“Serena’s boyfriend said he heard rumors a long time ago.”

“Did you spread them?”

I froze.

“I’m not that bored.”

He nodded, sounding like he agreed.

“True.”

“You should understand that even if you find a way to break me and Serena apart, I won’t love you

again. Doing this is pointless.”

For a moment, I genuinely wanted to walk away and let him spend fifteen days in custody.

Fortunately, officers located a parked delivery van across the street.

Its dashcam footage clearly captured Brandon fighting back.

The incident was officially ruled a mutual brawl.

The police gave both sides a stern lecture and released everyone.

At the station entrance, Serena clung to Brandon’s arm, acting distressed.

“You really misunderstood. I have nothing to do with him.”

“Please don’t break up with me.”

“I promise I won’t ever meet him again.”

Brandon let out a cold sneer and walked away without looking back.

Serena hurriedly chased after him.

Ethan stood behind her for a long time.

Yet she didn’t turn around even once.
