He Gave Her a Three-Day Honeymoon, Yet Called One Day With Me a Waste of Time Chapter 05

Sophie’s phone chimed. Grant reached for it.

She grabbed it first and turned the screen facedown on the bed.

“It’s probably Elena again. Don’t answer her tonight.”

She wrapped her arms around Grant’s neck.

“We just got married.”

A low rumble of thunder sounded outside

But Grant stopped.

“No.”

He sat up and started getting dressed.

“I need to go check on her.”

The smile disappeared from Sophie’s face.

She stared at him.

“Grant, this is our wedding night. You’re leaving now to go see her?”

Grant buttoned his shirt.

“She found out about the wedding today. With weather like this, she won’t be doing well at home alone.”

Sophie gave a short, mocking laugh.

“So what? We’re the ones who are legally married now.”

Grant glanced at her.

“Don’t forget, we still need her cooperation with the fertility plan. If what happened today makes her refuse to cooperate, she won’t even go to the clinic tomorrow.”

Sophie stopped arguing after that.

“Fine.”

She got out of bed and reached for her coat.

“Then I’m coming with you. You’re right. I still need her to have the baby.”

She rose onto her toes and kissed Grant.

Grant didn’t respond as naturally as he usually did.

From the moment he saw the phone light up, he had begun to worry for the first time that by the time he got back, I might no longer be there.

The heavy rain had brought downtown traffic almost to a standstill.

Bored, Sophie picked up her phone and sent me a message.

The system showed that it couldn’t be delivered.

She raised an eyebrow.

“She blocked me.”

Grant immediately pulled out his own phone.

He saw the last message I had sent him.

[I wish you and Sophie the best.]

When he tried to send another message, it failed.

Grant stared at the failed delivery notice and immediately sat up straighter.

“Elena has never blocked me before. This time, she really intends to cut off contact.”

Sophie curled her legs up in the passenger seat, completely unconcerned.

“She’s not really going to cut you off. You’ve been together for years. Last time you ignored her messages for two weeks, wasn’t she the one who came looking for you in the end?”

Grant didn’t answer.

After a while, he suddenly asked, “Sophie, how exactly did Elena find out where the wedding was today?”

Sophie paused.

“How would I know?”

“She’s my friend. Do you seriously think I’d send her the address myself?”

“Maybe she saw it on your phone at some point.”

Grant pressed his lips into a thin line.

The moment traffic moved a little, he turned sharply onto a side street.

Sophie grabbed the door handle.

“Grant, slow down. The roads are flooded. Why are you driving like this?”

He didn’t say a word.

A little over ten minutes later, the car stopped outside the apartment building.

Grant got out almost immediately.

A light was on upstairs.

Only when he saw that glow did some of the tension leave his shoulders.

Sophie hurried after him under an umbrella.

“What are you so worried about?”

“You’re completely soaked.”

“Even if she refuses to see you, she’s not worth driving like that through a storm.”

Grant wiped the rain from his face.

“Maybe I’m overthinking it.”

Sophie stared at him.

“You haven’t actually fallen in love with Elena, have you? Don’t forget, you only keep her happy because we

need her cooperation.”

Grant was silent for three seconds.

“I know.”

He headed into the building.

“Since we’re already here, we might as well stay the night.”

Sophie smiled.

“Aren’t you afraid she’ll kick you out the second she sees me?”

Grant pressed the elevator button.

“She won’t. Elena loves me.”

On the way upstairs, he had already started making alternative plans in his head.

If I truly refused to go along with the fertility plan because of this, he was even prepared to change the

arrangement.

I could raise the child myself.

Sophie could simply be the godmother.

As long as I didn’t insist on moving out.

As long as I didn’t completely cut him out of my life.

But the moment the door opened, Grant stopped where he was.

The apartment was almost completely empty.
