My Husband Tried to Give His Fortune to His Secret Son, But He Forgot Our Prenup Chapter 03

Thirty years ago, when I graduated from college, my family had been hit by one crisis after another.

My father, who had raised me from the time I was little, suddenly faced a severe illness. His final wish was to see me married.

At the time, I’d been dating Skyler for three years, and I was hopelessly in love. I immediately brought him home to meet my parents.

When he learned that my father was sick, Skyler practically lived at his bedside. He brought him meals, helped him bathe, and took care of him around the clock.

My father was quickly won over and believed Skyler was a good man, so he agreed to the marriage.

Two years after we got married, my father passed away. But on the day of the funeral, Skyler, as my husband, didn’t stay with the family overnight. He said something had come up at the company.

I found out later that he’d gone to meet Madeline Shaw.

The hotel they booked happened to be owned by my best friend’s company. When my friend saw their reservation, her face turned livid. She rolled up her sleeves, ready to go confront them herself.

“That heartless man. I’m going to—”

I stopped her before she could finish. “Keep the evidence, and don’t tip them off yet.”

That night, I didn’t cry or make a scene. Not because I was willing to let it go, but because I’d known all along.

On the night my father died, I received an anonymous email containing proof of Skyler’s long-hidden relationship with Madeline.

Later, I hired a private investigator. I learned that their families had been neighbors and that the two of them had grown up together. They’d practically been childhood sweethearts.

After high school, Madeline’s family couldn’t afford to send her to college, so she’d moved away to work.

They’d never admitted to being in a relationship, but everyone around them had always noticed how close they were.

Once I learned the truth, I considered confronting Skyler directly. But my health was too fragile at the time. I didn’t have the strength to run the company myself.

As much as I hated to admit it, Skyler was ambitious and calculating, the sharpest blade I had for keeping the Carter Group standing.

My father once told me, “Most things in life don’t go the way you want. What matters is deciding which road you’re willing to take. And marriage is no different.”

I’d kept those words in mind.

After the funeral, Skyler’s mother hosted a family dinner. That evening, Skyler walked in holding Madeline’s hand.

His mother smiled at me as if nothing were wrong and introduced Madeline.

“Vivian, this is Madeline Shaw. She and Skyler share no family ties, but they’re closer than siblings. From now on, you’re all one family.”

“They’ve always been close. You won’t make an issue of that, will you?” There was a warning in her eyes as she said it.

She clearly knew about Skyler and Madeline. With my family gone and no one I could fully rely on, she thought I’d have no choice but to keep quiet and behave.

I smiled. But I made a quiet note of the wrongs they owed me.

When I got home, my best friend was furious on my behalf.

“Why rush?”I laughed. “Before my father died, he made Skyler sign an agreement. If he wants to swallow my family’s fortune, he’d better have the means to do it.”

I contacted the attorney my father had trusted most. Together, we created a detailed inventory of the family’s assets and locked it away in a secure vault.

After that, I focused on recovering my health. But I never stopped having Skyler and Madeline watched.

Every record of their secret meetings, every hotel reservation, every message and screenshot was collected. I organized everything by date and filed it away.
