Pregnant I Took a Bar Job and Heard My Husband Say He Gave Me 400000 Monthly Chapter 09

“You’ve only just got out of hospital. How did you end up back here already?”

“Are you feeling unwell? Is the baby all right? Has Blake done something to you again?”

Kelly fired off so many questions at once that I had no choice but to ask her to sit down first.

After I told her everything from beginning to end, she shot to her feet.

“What?”

“I’ve seen some ridiculous stuff in dramas, but I’ve never seen anyone have the nerve to cook the books on

this scale.”

“This marriage has to end.”

As I listened to her pace furiously around the room, the reality of everything that had happened finally sank

“Kelly, I want to keep the baby.”

She stopped walking.

“Are you sure?”

“You’re not thinking of forgiving Blake just because he apologised, are you?”

I shook my head.

“It isn’t because of him.”

“At the scan today, I saw that tiny shadow on the screen while the doctor talked me through it.”

“Suddenly, I realised I wanted to give this baby the chance to be born.”

Kelly fell silent for a moment before letting out a long sigh.

“All right. If you’ve really thought this through, I’ll support you.”

“But you can’t keep carrying everything on your own like you did before. Blake can afford it. He can pay every

penny he’s responsible for.”

I smiled helplessly.

“He just gave me one and a half million dollars.”

Kelly immediately asked, “Did you take it?”

When she saw me nod, she finally relaxed.

“You were entitled to that all along. After everything you’ve been through this past year, it’s still nowhere near

enough.”

Over the next few days, Blake spent nearly all his time outside my hospital room.

I could have been discharged the following day, but he insisted on waiting until every test result was stable and made me stay for the full week.

Whenever the doctor came round, Blake had a notebook in hand and wrote down everything about my diet, medication, and follow-up appointments.

If I so much as turned over in the middle of the night, he would wake immediately and ask whether I was

uncomfortable.

It wasn’t that I felt nothing.

But the coldness I had endured over the past year, along with the days I had spent crouched by the reduced section looking for bread that was close to its expiry date, remained as vivid as though they had happened

yesterday.

When I returned to the apartment after being discharged, all the furniture had been restored to its original

place.

The kitchen and living room had also been completely rearranged.

Blake stood beside the door, speaking cautiously.

“I’ve looked into everything properly, and I had professionals check all the materials. Nothing in the

apartment will harm you or the baby.”

The man who never yielded at a negotiating table now looked as though he were waiting for an answer.

I looked at him.

“Blake, I still haven’t forgiven you.”

His eyes dimmed for a moment before he nodded.

“I know. I’ll wait.”

From that day forward, he came home on time every evening, bought groceries, prepared dinner, and took

over every task he could.

Meanwhile, the scandal surrounding Jessica continued to spread online.

Harrison Group released a statement confirming that she was under police investigation for suspected

misappropriation of company funds, falsifying financial records, and theft of private property.

Some of the assets in her name were temporarily frozen by court order.

The funds she had transferred to her mother and brother, along with the properties bought through the

dedicated account, were also being recovered through legal proceedings.

Someone later discovered that five years earlier, she had taken another large sum from a former employer using similar methods.

For reasons no one understood, that employer had ultimately chosen to settle the matter privately.

I had no desire to read any more comments.

I turned off my phone and focused on recovering.

Then one afternoon, I received a call from an unfamiliar number.

“Is that Madison? I’m Blake’s mother, Patricia Harrison.”

I paused in surprise.

Since our marriage, Patricia had almost never contacted me directly.

“Blake told me you’re pregnant. That sort of news should’ve been shared with the family sooner.”

“I’ll send my driver to collect you. We’ll have dinner together tonight and talk about what happens next.”

Her tone was polite, but it left little room for refusal.

After hesitating for a moment, I agreed.

When I arrived at the restaurant’s private dining room, Patricia was already seated inside.

There was someone else sitting beside her.

Jessica’s mother.
