Pregnant I Took a Bar Job and Heard My Husband Say He Gave Me 400000 Monthly Chapter 04

“Mr Harrison said if you ask for any more money, next month’s allowance will be cut in half.”

A thirty-dollar transfer came through immediately afterwards.

I stared at the notification for a long time before finally accepting it.

At least I would have something to eat today.

But I was suffocating in a marriage where I had to beg just to afford a single meal.

After thinking it over for a long time, I sent Blake a message.

“If you can’t afford to support me, then let’s get a divorce.”

That evening, I went to the bar for my scheduled shift.

After changing into my black-and-red uniform, I sat in the staff room eating the plain sandwich I had bought on the way.

The manager kept glancing between me and a photo on his phone.

“You look an awful lot like Mrs Harrison. You’re not up to something, are you?”

I shook my head and took another bite of my sandwich.

“You’ve got the wrong person. I’m no rich man’s wife.”

He looked me up and down, then finally relaxed.

“Fair enough. Mrs Harrison wouldn’t be doing a night shift here, would she? Finish up and get to work. We’re busy tonight.”

It was my first day, so I didn’t know the routine yet.

The supervisor showed me the ropes, but as more guests arrived, she quickly became too busy to keep helping me.

“Madison, take this bottle to VIP Room Eight. Don’t keep them waiting.”

To conceal my identity, I had applied for the job using Madison, the middle name my mother had given me.

I took the bottle and made my way down the corridor, looking for the room.

A few drunk guests tried to stop me for a chat along the way, so I quickened my pace.

At the end of the corridor, I finally found VIP Room Eight.

I was about to push open the door when I saw someone all too familiar sitting on the sofa.

Blake.

He had clearly had quite a lot to drink.

He rarely got drunk, yet there was a faint flush across his face.

He was in a black shirt with the top two buttons undone.

Blake leaned back against the sofa and lazily lit a cigarette.

“I give my wife four hundred grand a month. You reckon that’s not enough?”

Jack, sitting beside him, whipped his head round.

“Sorry, what? Four hundred grand still isn’t enough?”

Jack had known Blake since childhood, and I had met him at several private gatherings.

Blake exhaled a stream of smoke and replied evenly.

“I thought growing up with a father like that would’ve made her careful with money. But Jessica says she gets through the whole allowance every month and keeps turning up at expensive clubs.”

Jack sat up straight in disbelief.

“You don’t think she’s seeing someone else behind your back, do you?”

Blake turned towards him, his gaze immediately turning cold.

“Don’t talk rubbish.”

He stubbed out his cigarette and continued.

“She’s been getting worse lately. Now she’s even claiming she’s pregnant and keeps asking Jessica for more money.”

“Last night she said she couldn’t go on like this, so I had another hundred and fifty grand transferred.”

He paused and drained his glass.

“But this morning she still messaged me saying I couldn’t afford to support her, then asked for a divorce.”

I stood outside the door and heard every word.

If I hadn’t seen my own transaction history, I might almost have believed he really was talking about me.

But I had only ever received a hundred and twenty dollars a month.

If that enormous sum had never reached me, then it had to be going into someone else’s pocket.

My hands trembled with rage.

I couldn’t take another second.

I shoved the door open.

Blake froze when he saw me.

“Madison? What are you doing here?”

Jack’s expression changed as well, and he instinctively stepped between us.

“Both of you, calm down. Let’s talk this through.”
