My Adopted Sister Rejected the Comatose Duke, So I Married Him and Became His Duchess Chapter 06

Everyone in the recovery chamber froze.

Displeasure flashed across the faces of Vivian and the Grays.

They exchanged a glance, and Vivian immediately stepped in front of me.

“Pay no attention to her. She is merely a maid I brought here to help. She slipped into the room because she

wanted to watch the spectacle. I will send her away at once.”

She dug her fingers into my arm and began shoving me towards the door without giving me a chance to

speak.

Alexander appeared more alert now, and his voice was stronger than before.

“Move.”

That single deep, commanding word sounded nothing like the spirit who used to ramble constantly beside

For the first time, he displayed the authority of a noble heir.

Before I could think any further, he raised one hand with great effort and pointed at me.

“You. Come here.”

Vivian immediately panicked.

She glared viciously at me, her eyes filled with threats.

“Do not go over there. If you dare expose me, I have plenty of ways to make you regret it. Have you forgotten

everything you suffered over the years? Know your place. Alexander is not a man you have any right to

dream about.”

Until that moment, I had still been hesitating.

Should I quietly leave with the compensation the Duchess had promised me, or risk offending two powerful families and fight for myself for once?

But as I looked at Vivian’s familiar arrogance, as though she could control and humiliate me forever, I finally

found the resolve to resist her.

I shoved her aside.

“I’m going to him whether you like it or not.”

I refused to let Vivian control my fate any longer.

I deliberately raised my voice so everyone in the chamber could hear me.

“He is calling for me, yet you keep trying to stop me. Are you hiding something? Are you afraid I might expose the truth?”

My words not only drew the attention of the scribes and representatives, but also sparked a flash of

curiosity in Alexander’s eyes.

Vivian’s face turned red, and she reached for me again.

But the Duchess spoke sternly.

“Let Evelyn pass.”

When I saw the complicated expression on her face, I suddenly understood.

She was also struggling with whether to tell her son the truth.

It seemed my chances had just improved.

I tried to calm my racing heart and walked towards the bed one step at a time.

Alexander narrowed his eyes and studied me silently for a moment.

“What is your name?”

“Evelyn.”

His brow furrowed deeply.

The pained expression on his face showed that he was desperately searching his memories, yet he could not grasp the hazy figure lingering in his mind.

My heart rose and fell with every change in his expression.

After a long silence, his brow suddenly relaxed.

He looked at me, then at Vivian.

“Both of you, answer me. What do I most want to eat right now?”
