My Fiancé Confessed His Betrayal Chapter 06

My Fiancé Confessed His Betrayal Chapter 06 The Ring in My Hand

Shane crouched beside my lifeless body, his trembling hand hovering over my cheek, hesitant to touch me.

“We should wait for the paramedics,” someone in the crowd whispered behind him.

Garrett whipped his head around, flashing a lethal glare that silenced the voice immediately.

Finally, Shane’s fingers made contact with my face. Cold. Rigid.

It was the face he knew better than his own.

“Liz!”

Shane shoved Garrett aside, his voice cracking into a ragged sob.

“Open your eyes and look at me! I’m here… please, just look at me!”

Silence was his only answer.

My eyes remained half–open, gazing blankly into the pitch–black night sky above. Tear tracks dried against my pale skin, and the faint trace of a bitter smile lingered on my lips.

Shane’s hand slid down my neck, reaching for the arm lying limp at my side.

The moment his fingers gripped my hand, a small object slipped from my palm and rolled onto the concrete.

He looked down.

A band ring. Made of silver, painted in fresh crimson.

Shane’s breath caught in his throat.

He recognized it instantly. Years ago, during his rookie field assignment, he used his very first paycheck to buy raw materials and forged it by hand.

He had ruined over a dozen attempts before succeeding with this single ring.

He vividly remembered the day he presented it to me. I had teased him, calling it hideous, yet I immediately slipped it onto my ring finger and never took it off again.

And now, it had slipped out of my lifeless grip.

He stared at the blood–stained silver band, his mind going completely blank.

“Captain Thorne! The medics are here!”

A team in white coats rushed through the parted crowd.

Shane bolted upright, grabbing the chief paramedic by his lapels, his voice raw with panic.

“Save her! She’s pregnant–you have to save her and the baby!”

The medic knelt down, pulled back my eyelids, checked my airway, and pressed two fingers to my neck.

Within seconds, his hands went still.

Garrett stared at him, shouting frantically, “Why did you stop?! Keep trying!”

The paramedic stood up, removing his surgical mask with a heavy sigh.

“I’m deeply sorry for your loss. The victim exhibits no vital signs. She has been deceased for at least half an hour.”

“That’s impossible!”

Shane tightened his grip on the medic’s collar. “She’s carrying my child! You didn’t even examine her!”

The medic shook his head softly.

“The deceased recently underwent a procedure to terminate a pregnancy. There is no child.”

Shane’s grip froze, his hands slowly slipping off the uniform.

Stumbling backward, he slammed hard against the stone planter behind him.

Images flooded his mind–my ghostly pale face when I returned home that afternoon, the way I clutched my abdomen while walking, and how I stared at him without uttering a single word.

“Impossible…” he muttered beneath his breath. “She wanted a baby more than anything…”

No one offered an answer.

Garrett stepped forward to pull him up. “Get up first-”

Before his hand could touch him, Shane’s fist smashed straight into Garrett’s jaw.

“It was you!”

Shane grabbed Garrett’s collar, his eyes bloodshot with rage.

“Upstairs, you swore she would never commit suicide! If I had come down to look for her then

Garrett shoved him back violently, his own eyes burning red.

“And you believed me?! You didn’t know your own wife?! Who was the one who said ‘Let her come back on her own‘?!”

The two men crashed into each other, exchanging furious blows. It took four officers rushing in to physically tear them apart.

Pinned to the ground, Shane gasped for air, his wild eyes locked onto my motionless body a few feet away.

Without saying another word, he pushed past the officers, stood up, and dragged his feet toward me step by step.

He dropped to his knees at my side and pulled my lifeless form into his arms.

My head rested against his shoulder, smearing dark blood across his crisp collar.

Shane closed his eyes, burying his face deep into my hair.

His shoulders began to violently shudder.

No screams. No tears. Only uncontrollable, silent shaking.

Garrett wiped the blood from his lip, cast a glance at Shane, then turned his gaze toward Wynne, who stood at the fringe of the crowd.

“Wynne tried to stop you too.”

Shane slowly turned his head, his gaze locking onto Wynne.

Standing on the outer edge of the crowd, Wynne’s face had gone utterly stiff.

She parted her trembling lips.

“Shane, I had no idea Liz would actually… I thought she was just throwing a fit like she always does…”

Shane glared at her, the crimson veins in his eyes darkening into pure hostility.

The very next second, Wynne suddenly clutched her head and collapsed to the a shrill scream.
