My Fiancé Confessed His Betrayal Chapter 05

My Fiancé Confessed His Betrayal Chapter 05 Too Late to Believe

As my body plummeted from the window, my soul floated weightlessly in the air above.

I watched Shane bolt frantically toward the edge.

Leaning halfway out the window, he scanned the ground below. “Liz!”

His desperate shout dissolved into the wind, met only by silence.

Wynne’s soft voice drifted from behind him. “Shane, calm down. Something was off about that gunshot.”

Shane whipped his head around, terror still gleaming in his eyes.

I had rarely seen that expression on him. He was always stoic, controlled, and utterly composed -even when he betrayed me.

Wynne stepped forward, picked up the gun from the floor, and turned it over to reveal the barrel.

“Look, it’s just a BB gun, not a real pistol. Liz was probably just trying to scare us.”

Her tone was calm and convincing.

Garrett leaned in for a closer look, nodding as realization hit him.

“You’re right. I knew a tough woman like her would never take her own life. She probably pulled this stunt because she refused to hand over her weapon and feared suspension. It’s fine, we’ll find her downstairs later.”

Shane stared at the toy gun. His tense shoulders relaxed slightly, though a frown still lingered on his face.

Wynne gently took his arm, her voice soothing.

“Shane, stop worrying. You know how desperate Liz was to have a baby. She must have bought this toy gun for our future child. She loves you far too much to ever commit suicide.”

Her words served as the ultimate reassurance, extinguishing the final shred of doubt in Shane’s mind.

He drew a deep breath, his throat bobbing as he finally turned his gaze away from the window.

Garrett patted his shoulder with a laugh.

“She scored a perfect 100 in physical combat training. For all we know, she’s already taking the stairs back up, waiting for you to go down so she can make you apologize.”

Laughter broke out among them, and the heavy atmosphere dissolved in an instant.

Wynne smiled along, adding with a touch of playful exasperation, “That’s just how Liz is— stubborn to a fault. Even when she’s wrong, she expects people to pamper her. If you go downstairs now, Shane, she’ll only throw another tantrum.”

Shane stayed quiet for a long moment before finally speaking. “Forget it. I’m not going.”

Pausing, he added, “Let her come back on her own.”

After a few seconds of silence, a faint smirk even touched his lips.

He pulled out his phone and recorded a voice note for his assistant.

“Order a bouquet of red roses and have it delivered to the house first thing tomorrow morning. Pick out a necklace too–from the brand she mentioned last time.

“Make sure the gift box has a silk ribbon. She likes unwrapping presents.”

Floating in midair, I listened to his words and found the entire scene laughable.

He was arranging a gift for me.

He genuinely believed I was just throwing a tantrum.

He thought a bouquet and a necklace could win me back.

Perhaps once upon a time, they could have. In the past, after giving me the cold shoulder for 3 days, he would buy me a necklace, and I’d throw myself into his arms with tear–stained eyes, whispering, “Don’t ever do this to me again.”

But this time was different.

This time, I was truly dead.

Standing behind him, Wynne cast a quick glance out the window, a subtle smirk curling her lips.

No one spoke of me again.

No one believed anything terrible had actually happened.

Shane finished his last task and rubbed his temples, about to say something, when Garrett’s phone rang with a piercing ring.

Everyone looked up at the same time.

Garrett answered, and a panicked voice chimed from the speaker.

“This is the Southside Police Precinct. Is this the Special Operations Unit?

“We just received an emergency call reporting a fatal fall outside your building. We need an officer to come down immediately to identify the body.”
