The Luna Who Heard Cruel Secrets Chapter 07

The Luna Who Heard Cruel Secrets Chapter 07 The Alpha Who Wouldn’t Let Me Go

Rhett yanked the car door open again.

Then he pulled me out and dragged me straight into his arms.

Tight.

So tight it felt like he was trying to crush me into his bones.

His breath hit the side of my neck, fast and ragged and burning hot. His chest was pressed against my back, his heartbeat pounding like war drums.

“Anna.”

His voice was so hoarse it was almost hard to make out.

And there was a tremor in it—a tremor no Alpha should ever have. Raw. Bare. Almost pleading.

“Don’t even think about it. You stirred me up, and now you think you can run?”

His arms locked tighter around me, until I could barely breathe.

“Not a chance.”

I struggled to shove him away, but tears betrayed me and spilled out again.

“Let me go! Don’t you hate me? Don’t you already have Daisy? Then why are you even chasing me-”

I didn’t get to finish.

He spun me around, lowered his head, and crushed his mouth to mine.

It wasn’t a kiss.

It was a bite.

His teeth broke my lower lip, and the taste of blood spread between us, mixing with our pheromones–bitter, sharp, salt–sweet.

He was shaking.

An Alpha.

Shaking.

“Who told you,” he said through clenched teeth, “that I can’t stand you?”

He gripped my shoulders and turned me fully toward him. Both hands came up to cradle my face, forcing me to look straight into his eyes.

“And another thing. Daisy is my sister.”

The last two words came out with savage emphasis.

“My real sister.”

My brain stopped working.

For two whole breaths, I could only stare at him.

Then I finally forced out, “S–sister?”

“What else would she be?” Rhett snapped. “She just came back from the Trial Grounds to help the Pack handle affairs. What exactly have you been filling your head with?”

I blinked.

“Then… the perfume…”

He looked away,

pride.

his throat working once, and then barked out the answer with brittle, wounded

“That was for you.”

I just stared.

“After Daisy got back, I asked her what girls usually like. She recommended that perfume.” His voice dropped, edged with embarrassment he was trying to hide. “I was going to let you smell it in the car first and see if you liked it. But then you started all this nonsense about sleeping separately, and when you said it smelled awful, I didn’t give it to you.”

For me?

My mind went completely blank.

“Then… why did your body always pull away whenever I got close to you?”

The question that had been lodged in my heart for so long finally came out, my voice trembling with the edge of tears.

“You always went so stiff… it felt like you couldn’t stand me touching you…”

For a second, it looked like he was fighting some brutal internal battle.

Then he suddenly lowered his head and buried his face in the hollow of my neck.

When he spoke, his voice came out muffled against my skin, thick with frustration and embarrassment.

“Anna. You’re a grown woman now. Could you please try using a little common sense? I’m a normal adult male. Every night you’d curl up in my arms and rub all over me, and then you’d ask why I wasn’t kissing you?”

He lifted his head and looked straight at me.

Something was burning deep in his eyes–hot, restrained, dangerous.

“My body reacts. I was afraid I’d scare you.”

Heat exploded through me.

It felt as if every drop of blood in my body rushed straight to my face all at once.

From the tips of my ears to my collarbone, from my cheeks to the back of my neck, I was burning alive.

So that was it.

He hadn’t been disgusted.

He had been holding back.

Every time he stiffened and turned his face away, every time he dodged my lips–it wasn’t because he hated my touch.

It was because one second longer, and he would have lost control.

I opened my mouth.

Not a single word came out.

Then, right on cue, the servants‘ thoughts flipped direction in

“What is happening? The White Wolf is Alpha’s sister?”

“So it was all one huge misunderstanding?”

“Alpha really loves Luna, doesn’t he? He held back for this long?”

my

head.

Rhett looked at me, still stunned and speechless, and finally let out a long sigh.

There was helplessness in it.

And indulgence.

He reached up and smoothed back the hair the wind had blown across my face, his touch unexpectedly gentle.

“Next time,” he said quietly, “stop overthinking everything. Can you do that?”

Then he paused.

“And if you ever say you’re leaving again…” His voice dropped. “I really will lock you inside my territory and never let you out.”

My nose stung.

I threw myself into his arms and wrapped both arms tightly around his waist. I rubbed my face all over his expensive charcoal–gray suit, smearing tears and snot across it without the slightest shame.

“I’m not going anywhere!” I mumbled into his chest. “Not even if you beat me to death.”

Then, softer, “Rhett… I like you so much.”

His whole body went still for a second.

Then those strong, beautiful arms of his closed around me fully, as if he were pressing me into the exact place I belonged. His chin came to rest on top of my head, and a low, deeply satisfied breath left his chest.

“I know.”

Two seconds passed.

Then, very quietly- “I like you a lot too.”
