They Tried To Punish My Daughter, Unaware We Were Vampires Chapter 08

The basement reeked of blood and urine.

I crossed the room and looked down at Silas and Rowan.

Once, they had been my proudest achievements. Now they looked like two terrified strays with

nowhere left to run.

“Mom, I was wrong. I was so wrong.”

Silas collapsed at my feet and clutched my ankles.

“I was blind. That bitch seduced me. Please forgive me. I’ll do anything you ask. I swear I’ll never

betray you again.”

Rowan proved even more shameless.

He scrambled toward Kayla and snatched up the fallen dagger.

“Mom, this is all her fault. She turned us against each other. I’ll kill her right now and prove I’m

still loyal to you.”

Without hesitation, he drove the blade into Kayla’s thigh.

She screamed and fought to escape, but Rowan pinned her to the floor. Maddened by the pain, Kayla sank her teeth into Rowan’s wrist and refused to let go.

Rowan ripped the dagger free and stabbed her again and again. The harder she bit, the more frantically he attacked.

“You bastard!” Kayla screamed. “You wanted the estate for yourself. Don’t pin this on me!”

They thrashed in the blood, tearing into each other in a desperate attempt to survive. Watching them turn on each other was bitterly ironic.

“I taught you how to kill so you could protect Ivy,” I said. “Instead, you used everything I taught you against her.”

One snap of my fingers stopped them both in their tracks.

“Death would be too merciful.”

I walked over to Silas and brushed two fingers across his eyes. Black mist slipped beneath his

eyelids.

Silas screamed and rolled across the floor, clutching his eyes.

“My eyes! I can’t see! I can’t see anything!”

Then I slammed my palms against Rowan’s ears. His eardrums ruptured, sending blood down the

des of his face.

His mouth opened in a scream he could no longer hear.

I had taken Silas’s sight and Rowan’s hearing.

They stumbled around the cramped basement in blind panic.

Unable to see, Silas mistook Rowan’s movements for an attack and slashed wildly with the dagger:

Rowan couldn’t hear Silas’s cries. He only knew someone was attacking him, so he fought back with everything he had.

Silas and Rowan tore into each other until both were covered in blood.

Then a faint voice came from the examination table.

“Mom…”

Ivy had woken without any of us noticing. She sat up and licked her cracked lips.

Her eyes had turned crimson too. Ivy gave the bloodied figures on the floor a cold look, then came

to my side.

She covered her nose in disgust.

“Mom, their blood smells awful.”
