He Gave Away My House During the Vows, So I Canceled the Marriage Chapter 05

I took a deep breath and lifted my head to look at him.

“Jason, did you forget? We haven’t signed the marriage certificate yet.”

“Legally, you and I aren’t related. You have no right to send me anywhere.”

“And that gift you mentioned? It was a conditional gift, made in contemplation of marriage. Since the wedding isn’t happening, I can go to court to revoke it. Guess what a judge would say?”

The very thing he’d done to keep the house as his separate property, delaying the official paperwork, had become my lifesaver.

Jason’s smile faded slowly, and a cold gleam flickered in his eyes. “That’s my girl.”

“But have you thought about this? You’re a teacher.”

“If I take your medical records, add fabricated details, and spread them around, who do you think is going to trust you with their children? What school would want you?”

In that instant, my blood ran cold.

The classroom was everything I had.

If those records got out, true or not, the school would let me go to protect its reputation.

Jason saw the look on my face and smiled, satisfied. He reached out to touch my cheek.

“So be smart. Go through with the wedding. I won’t touch your job. And we can talk about the house.”

I turned my head away and pulled back from his hand. “Don’t touch me.”

His fingers hung in the air for a moment, then slowly curled into a fist and dropped. “Lily, I’m trying to be nice here. Don’t make me regret it.”

I looked into his eyes, my patience gone. “Jason, you’ve been scheming against me from the very beginning. And now you’re threatening my job.”

I spoke slowly, one word at a time. “You. Don’t. Deserve. Me.”

Before the last syllable left my mouth, I raised my hand and slapped him across the face as hard as I could.

Jason stood frozen for two seconds. Then a red handprint slowly bloomed on his cheek.

His expression shifted from shock to pure menace. “You hit me?”

I didn’t have time to run. He grabbed me by the throat and struck me back.

Harder than I’d hit him.

The back of my head hit the floor. My vision went dark for a moment. I tasted blood in my mouth.

Jason hauled me up by the arm, his voice cold as ice.

“Lily, I’ve put up with you for a long time. If you don’t want to get married, fine. I don’t need you anymore.”

He let go and pulled out his phone. “Mom, get a couple of people and lock her in the supply closet in the back. The managing partner is about to arrive. Don’t let her ruin this for me.”

He turned to the mirror, dabbed some powder on his left cheek until it looked normal, and walked out the door.

A moment later, Margaret pushed in with a few relatives.

She rolled up her sleeves, grabbed a dirty rag, and shoved it into my mouth. “I’ve never liked you, you spoiled rich girl. You want to cause trouble? I’ll show you trouble.”

They dragged me down the hallway toward the small supply closet at the end.

Just when I thought there was no hope left.

A familiar figure stepped into our path.

“Who the hell do you think you are to touch her?”
