My Doctor Mother Wouldn’t Pull Strings for Me—Until I Died Chapter 08

A few minutes later, the emergency room door opened again.

Dr. Voss walked in, still in her housekeeping uniform, mop in hand.

The moment my mother saw her, she lunged and grabbed her by the collar.

“Tell me. What exactly happened with Adeline’s screening results? Why does she have a coagulation

disorder?!”

Dr. Voss glanced at me lying in the pool of blood, a flash of shock and pity crossing her face.

Then she turned to my mother with a cold smile.

“Dr. Marsh, Adeline’s premarital screening did come back showing a rare clotting disorder virus.”

“But it’s not incurable–with early intervention, for someone with your skill, it’s nothing more than a few pills

and some minor procedures.”

She looked my mother dead in the eye.

“So–after all this time, you still didn’t know your own daughter’s condition?”

My mother’s whole body shook.

She seemed to recall how, time and time again, I had tried to speak, only to be cut off by her impatience:

“Enough, I’m swamped. I’ll look at it later.”

Eyes reddening, she grabbed Dr. Voss’s arm, furious.

“You knew how serious this was. Why didn’t you tell me directly?”

Dr. Voss wrenched her arm free, her expression full of contempt.

“Dr. Marsh, have you forgotten? You already had me pulled off clinical duty for ‘favoritism and misconduct‘

and put on housekeeping.”

“You said someone with such poor medical ethics as me should never be allowed to practice medicine

again.”

“I’ve taken that lesson to heart!”

My mother’s mouth opened and closed, no words coming out.

Dr. Voss, however, twisted the knife one more time.

“And besides–even if you didn’t see it, Brynn saw the results that day, didn’t she? Didn’t she tell you?”

The chaos in the emergency room went dead silent.

My mother and Weston both turned, staring at Brynn on the bed.

Her face went pale, and she shook her head instinctively.

“I didn’t… I don’t know anything, I only went that day to get my own anemia results!”

“If I’d known Adeline had a clotting disorder, how could I have let her give me blood…”

Dr. Voss scoffed from the side.

“Anemia? You’re built like an ox. What anemia?”

Mom stared straight at her, her gaze gradually turning terrifying.

“If your test results were fine, then where did those anemia and low–immunity reports come from?”

“I remember now–the other day, right when I was about to open Adeline’s screening report, you snatched it

out of my hands. Said I’d been in surgery too long and needed to rest my eyes, offered to read it to me!”

Her voice was starting to shake.

“You told me, smiling, that all of Adeline’s numbers were completely normal. Told me not to worry…”

“Where’s that report now? Where is it? Get it for me right now!”

My soul trembled violently.

So my mother really had believed I was perfectly healthy.

Is this the confidence behind her blatant favoritism, the reason she could so recklessly let me bleed out to

the very last drop?

“Brynn. Where is that report?”

My mother’s voice rang out sharp again, and Brynn flinched violently on the bed.

Her eyes reddened further, and she wrung the hem of her shirt, once again slipping into that pitiful, wounded

expression.

“Adeline’s report really was fine–it must have been Dr. Voss forging it out of revenge! That’s what killed her…”

“I have this virus now too… would I really joke around with my own health?”

My mother paused, doubt creeping across her face.

Beside her, Dr. Voss exploded.

“Bullshit! You’ve had me forge fake test results for you every other day, and I never once did it!”

“That day you read Adeline’s report, you said you’d tell Dr. Marsh, and then turned right around and told her I

was trying to get a shortcut!”

“I’m already a janitor now anyway! Today I’m going to tear that mouth of yours apart!”

She lunged forward. People scrambled to hold her back.

In the middle of the struggle, the emergency room door burst open from outside.

Several reporters with cameras, along with the police, came pouring in all at once.
