My Doctor Mother Wouldn’t Pull Strings for Me—Until I Died Chapter 06

Weston hesitated where he stood, then took a step toward me.

But before he’d taken more than one step, a panicked cry rang out behind him.

“Brynn! Brynn, what’s wrong?”

Brynn’s eyes fluttered shut, and she went limp, slumping onto the bed.

Weston spun around instantly, rushing back to her without a second thought, scooping her into his arms.

Brynn stirred, weakly gripping his sleeve, eyes brimming with tears.

“Weston… those scissors, those clamps, they’re so scary… will you stay with me?”

She peered over his shoulder toward me.

“Adeline… I’m really scared. I just need Weston for a little longer. Please, understand…”

Weston followed her gaze, his voice softening.

“Adeline, they’re almost done with Brynn. Wait a little longer–I’ll be right there…”

In the corner, I remained silent, still.

Brynn bit her lip, tears dripping down.

Weston’s eyes flickered with irritation, his voice going cold.

“Adeline Marsh, what is wrong with you today? The whole family has already explained everything to you,

and you’re still being difficult?!”

“You’re getting more and more unreasonable!”

He looked down at the wound on Brynn’s arm and sucked in a breath.

“Why hasn’t this stopped bleeding…”

Before he finished, the emergency room door slammed open.

A doctor from the lab rushed in clutching a report, face urgent.

“Dr. Marsh, this is bad–there’s an abnormality in Miss Sutter’s blood test results!”

“A bloodthirsty virus has been found in her body. This virus devours and destroys her coagulation factors,

which is what’s causing her wound to bleed again!”

Brynn’s face drained of color at the news, and she immediately burst into sobs.

My mother’s expression shifted violently.

She snatched the report and scanned it, her brow slowly relaxing.

“Don’t worry, sweetheart. The early–stage cure rate for this is one hundred percent. Trust me–I won’t let

anything happen to you.”

Brynn covered her face, sniffling, and glanced carefully at me.

“But… I was perfectly fine before…”

“Unless… Adeline… she gave me tainted blood… she wanted…”

“What did you say?!”

Before Brynn’s insinuation could finish forming, my mother’s arms loosened around her.

“Adeline’s infected with this virus?”

Brynn looked stunned–she hadn’t seen the anger she expected on my mother’s face.

Instead, there was only deep worry, deep unease.

My mother strode to my bedside, her voice unconsciously softening, tinged with panic.

“Adeline, when did you get this? Why didn’t you tell me?”

I flailed uselessly in midair.

“I tried to tell you! You wouldn’t listen!”

My body lay there, still turned to the side, unmoving.

Getting no response, my mother’s flicker of panic hardened back into anger.

“I’m talking to you! Are you still going to give me the silent treatment?”

She reached out and shoved my shoulder hard.

The next instant, she froze completely, still as stone.
