By then I was already standing before Bryce. The officiant’s voice echoed around me.

“Lillian Pemberton, do you take Bryce Rainer as your husband, for better or for worse, in sickness and in health…”

In that moment, the world went quiet.

I saw everyone waiting for my answer.

I smiled softly and parted my lips.

“I do.”

Over at the other wedding, Rowan’s ceremony had wrapped up quickly too.

The guests all left, but they hadn’t received the things from me.

He called the staff he’d sent over.

“Why hasn’t the bride over there arrived yet?”

The staffer replied respectfully.

“We’ve already moved everything per your instructions. The bride should be changing out of her gown. We’ll bring it over shortly.”

Rowan asked out of nowhere.

“She didn’t put up a fight?”

The voice on the other end answered.

“No, she cooperated completely.”

It was exactly what he wanted to hear, but he couldn’t shake the unease.

Lorinda watched his furrowed brow and soothed him.

“Rowan, don’t worry. Lillian will definitely bring the things over.”

“But what if…”

Rowan pressed, “What if what?”

Lorinda wanted to pin down his stance.

“What if Lillian actually goes through with the ceremony with Bryce?”

Rowan dismissed it without a second thought.

“Impossible. There’s nothing between them. Even if they do hold a ceremony, it’s only because of the tradition. Lillian only wants to marry me.”

Lorinda smiled, unseen by him, then put on a hesitant voice.

“But what if she saw the livestream and got angry?”

Rowan patted her head gently.

“Don’t overthink it. I’ll smooth things over with her later. She won’t hold it against you.”

As they talked, a figure approached from the distance.

Rowan scolded before he even made out who it was.

“What took you so long? This is a wedding. Can’t you take it seriously?”

When the person came closer, he stared in shock.

“Where is she?”

The staffer handed over a box and spoke carefully.

“Miss Pemberton asked me to return these to you.”

Inside the box were the veil, the gown, the jewelry set, and the ring.

Rowan’s pupils contracted sharply.

Then the staffer said quietly, “Her ceremony is already finished.”

“Mrs. Rainer has gone home with Mr. Rainer.”
