My Ungrateful Shifter Auctioned Me Away—Now He’s Begging for My Return Chapter 08

Rowan froze.

The momentum died in his legs, and he looked from Silas to me, a shivering, soot-covered wreck.

All his former arrogance had vanished.

In confusion, he asked, “Silas? Why is it you?”

“What are you doing in my house?”

He looked around, trying to find a foothold in reality. Even so, his voice was shaking.

“Where’s the new shifter?”

“Did you check him out for me? Did you think he wasn’t good enough and drive him away?”

Rowan looked at me with pleading eyes, desperate for confirmation.

“That’s what happened, right, Evelyn?”

I said nothing.

Rowan was actually smart.

His clenched hands trembled at his sides, and his filthy tail went rigid with dread.

He clearly already knew the truth.

He was only lying to himself.

“Silas, thank you for taking care of Evelyn for me.”

“But…”

Rowan tried to move closer.

The closer he got, the more the air seemed to choke hime.

There was no other shifter scent in the air.

Only Silas’s.

In the end, he stopped three steps away from Silas, his face drained of color.

He had smelled it.

The scent wrapped around Evelyn from head to toe, seamless, dense, and overwhelming.

Silas’s scent.

Rowan stared at Silas in disbelief and roared, “Silas, you lied to me?”

He had only been away from home for a week.

If there had been another shifter, the house wouldn’t reek so thoroughly of a lion’s claim.

From beginning to end, the only shifter who had entered this home and recognized Evelyn as his

guardian was one person.

Silas had been the ‘anonymous’ bidder.

Rowan was furious and falling apart.

“Aren’t we friends? How could you steal my guardian?”

Silas showed no guilt.

His face was cold, and even his tone was blunt and stiff.

“Because you treated her badly.”

“She took good care of you, Rowan.”

“But you hurt her.”

Rowan was stung by the truth. His voice sharpened.

“That was between me and Evelyn!”

“What did it have to do with you?”

“You were a stray for too long, envy has rotted your brainl. You really are the lowest kind of shifter. I thought you were different.”

As if he had suddenly found a weapon. He turned to me.

“Evelyn, Silas was the friend I met after you bought me. He was the one who encouraged me to post that ad! He told me Vivienne was the ‘dream’ and that I should never look back!.”

“I was going to come back and check on you. It’s all his fault. You can’t stay with him!”

I realized that, in front of Rowan, Silas looked fierce but was terribly bad with words.

He did not defend himself at all. He only pressed his lips together, as if waiting for judgment.

I felt like teasing him, so I lifted a brow and asked, “Silas, do you have anything to say?”

“I…”

Silas opened his mouth, looked back at me, and fell silent for a moment.

In the end, all he said was, “I’m sorry, Evelyn.”

Rowan saw the apology as a victory. He lifted his chin slightly and shouted, “You don’t get to call Evelyn your guardian.”

“I won’t hold it against you for lying to me. Now get out of my house.”

I sighed and reached for Silas’s wrist.

Only then did I realize his nerves had chilled his blood. He was shivering under the surface.

I pulled Silas behind me.

Then, finally, I looked Rowan straight in the eye.

My tone was flat. “The one who should get out is you.”

“Didn’t I tell you? Once you left, you were not allowed to come back.”
