My Ungrateful Shifter Auctioned Me Away—Now He’s Begging for My Return Chapter 05

My Ungrateful Shifter Auctioned Me Away—Now He’s Begging for My Return Chapter 05

He had just helped me carry everything in, so I figured dinner should be my responsibility.

With that in mind, I went into the kitchen.

There were only a few custom shifter meal packs left, the ones I used to make for Rowan.

Based on his biological profile, I had chosen premium cuts of meat, ground them into the right

texture, mixed in essential fibers and enzymes at a clinical ratio.

Then sealed everything into individual packs.

All they needed was a quick steam before serving.

Honestly, they tasted fine.

They just lacked visual flair.

I took out one of the meal packs, hesitated, and asked Silas, “Do you want this, or would you rather

have a sandwich?”

“This is a specialized raw blend,” I added. “But my previous shifter said it tasted awful.”

Silas stood in the living room, a nearly invisible smile in his eyes. “Thank you. I actually want that.”

It was as if he had not heard the second option at all.

Fine. I would steam it for him first. If he did not like it, I could make something else.

Maybe it was because he had spent too many years as a stray, but Silas ate whatever he was given.

He ate quickly too.

It was rare for someone to appreciate something I had made, so I steamed the remaining three meal

packs as well.

“It’s delicious.”

“Evelyn, this is the best thing I’ve ever eaten.”

After he said that, he closed the distance between us, his massive frame enveloping me in a

tentative embrace.

He was warm and soft to the touch. I could not help reaching up to rub his fluffy ears.

I only rubbed them lightly twice before a low, rumbling purr rose from his throat.

He looked so comfortable.

It took effort for me to pull my hand back. I made him return to his seat.

Then I told him, “I’m not planning to keep another shifter for now.”

“We haven’t finalized the bond contract yet, so you’re still free. You can leave directly.”

“Of course, if you still want a guardian, you can tell me your conditions. I’ll help you find someone

suitable, trustworthy, and reliable.”

My tone was gentle enough.

But as my words fell, Silas’s expression slowly darkened.

He narrowed his eyes at me dangerously, his pupils thinning into the sharp slits of a shifter on the

hunt.

My voice weakened. “What’s wrong?”

“Why are you trying to send me away?” he asked. “Am I worse than Rowan? Or do you already have

someone better in mind?”

“If you think I eat too much, I can skip the specialty meals. I won’t eat meat. You don’t have to feed

I can go out and hunt for myself.”
“That’s not what I meant.”

It was the first time someone had wanted to come close to me so openly.

A little helpless, I rubbed my temples.

“You saw it, didn’t you? My previous shifter said I was bland and boring, that I was a clinical tyrant who reeked of chemicals.”

“I’m probably not suited to be anyone’s guardian.”

“Choosing a guardian is a serious thing, especially for a shifter in a weaker position. You can’t just recognize someone on impulse, Silas. Like this time, you…”

“You are suited for it.”

Silas gripped my hand tightly and lifted his golden eyes to me.

He looked at me with complete focus, solemn and steady.

“You’re the best guardian in the world.”

“I’ve eaten meat pumped full of water. I’ve gnawed on moldy bones. I can taste the difference. You

didn’t just feed me; you nourished me.”

“I’ve lived through days where no one cared if I lived or died, so I understand better than anyone that being cared for and being managed is a privilege only a shifter living inside-someone’s love

gets to have.”

“The scent on you is unique. It makes me feel safe. I like it.”

“That fox was the one who was wrong. He couldn’t tell what was real.”

“Don’t push me away. Trust me.”

Something deep inside me, something that had been denied for too long, softened beneath the

intensity of his gaze.

Was he telling the truth?

I opened my mouth.

But whether it was refusal or doubt, the words caught in my throat.

I could not say them.
