Quit the Mafia Crown, Took the Healer Scalpel Chapter 01

Quit the Mafia Crown, Took the Healer Scalpel Chapter 01

Lina Conti was the joke of the entire East Coast underworld.

Other mafia wives fought off mistresses and guarded against love children; she rushed to soothe her husband Dante Conti’s latest girl.

When a mistress had a birthday, a holiday, or an anniversary, Lina picked out the gifts herself;

when one fell ill, she remembered it better than Dante did and sent a private doctor to the door;

when the press caught a mistress and Dante on a date, she had the posts removed and even defended the girl.

This time, Dante had fallen for a young woman named Iris, and had dropped his old mistress Camila for her.

Bitter and humiliated, Camila climbed to the top of a high-rise and demanded that Dante show up.

Dante never showed up. It was Lina who cleaned up the mess.

She looked relaxed as she sat down beside Camila, unafraid of the sheer drop below.

She sounded like the calmest negotiator. “Name your terms.”

Camila broke down. “Dante was so good to me. How could he just change?”

Lina seemed lost in memory.

“Dante knows how to charm a girl: he cooks, fusses, and the all-powerful godfather bends low for you.”

“I understand how you feel. When he was chasing me, he treated me even better than he treats you.”

She paused and sighed.

“When I found out, I raged and asked for a divorce. He knelt by my hospital bed for a week, begging me back.”

“And what happened? He kept going through women. You’re not the first; Iris won’t be the last. He has no heart. Take the settlement.”

At last, soothed by her soft voice, Camila named her price: “Fifty million, plus an apartment in Manhattan.”

“They say Lina also took fifty million to stay. Dante’s women come and go, yet a gambler’s daughter sits in the Donna’s seat.”

Lina let out a soft laugh. “I’m nothing special to Dante. I was just the first.”

When it was done, Lina had barely stepped back into Rose Manor before a burning chest pressed against her back.

She smelled another woman’s perfume.

He must have just come from that girl, Iris.

Dante’s big hand closed around her waist, and his voice carried a careless apology.

“Camila’s been too much trouble. Sorry you had to deal with it. I’ll make it up to you.”

Lina gave no answer.

Dante’s compensations were always expensive jewelry and luxuries. The whole East Coast believed she stayed with him for his money.

Even Dante thought she could forgive his betrayal for cash, and his cheating had grown bolder year after year.

“It’s my duty to take the Don’s worries off his hands.”

She pushed his hand away and handed him a stack of papers.

“Camila wants the apartment you two lived in. The transfer agreement is ready. Just sign.”

Dante signed without even looking.

He took her wrist again. “Don’t you want to know what I’m going to give you instead?”

He lowered his head, a note of expectation in his voice. “Seven years. Time for an heir, Lina.”

For a second, Lina was stunned.

Having his heir meant sharing every asset he owned.

She lowered her eyes. If she’d never learned the truth, their first child would be five now.

Her gaze caught the hickey on Dante’s neck, and she pulled back, her voice stiff.

“It’s late. Go take a shower and rest. There’s no rush about children.”

Dante noticed the mark and complained, half helplessly.

“Iris is too much like you were: rough background, stubborn streak, possessive, always leaving marks. I’ll tell her to dial it back.”

He stroked Lina’s face, laughter in his voice as he tried to coax her.

“You’re my favorite: mature, steady, dignified. Rare to see you jealous. I’ll wash her off me now.”

With that, he turned and headed upstairs.

Lina sighed quietly. “It’s fine. I don’t mind.”

This was the last mess she’d clean up for Dante, and the last time she’d play the gracious Donna.

When Dante cheated again, she stopped loving him. She stayed for fifty million, not out of greed, but for her grandmother’s treatment.

But a few days ago, her grandmother had passed away, taking with her the last reason Lina had to stay.

Looking at the signed papers on the table, a relieved smile tugged at the corner of Lina’s mouth.

Hidden beneath that stack of papers was a divorce agreement.
