He used to say I was too dazzling, but back then I barely spared him a thought.

My heart belonged to Griffin, so I never once answered the light in Xavier’s eyes.

That only changed after what happened to me. The moment my letter reached him, he stormed into Winterveil Pack with special authorization and his men, and took me out of that living hell.

On the day of our Mate Ceremony, we invited no guests. In that quiet border town, he simply slipped the bond ring onto my finger.

My injuries still hadn’t healed at the time. He stayed with me every night, but he never once touched me

more than he should.

Then one night, I reached for his hand first and said, “Mark me, Xavier.”

His eyes turned red at once, and even his voice shook. “Violet, I love you.”

He told me every day that he loved me, that I was wonderful, that I deserved to be cherished by the entire

world.

He said, “You are the best girl in this world.”

For the first few months after leaving that city, I still cared, a little, about the news from back there.

The official notices, the rumors that Daphne had been stripped of her status, even Thornridge Pack’s decline… I listened in secret, and sometimes I still dreamed about it.

But as time passed, the dreams grew fewer, and the noise around me faded.

Eventually, I stopped caring at all.

Because I was pregnant.

Six months ago, I found out I was carrying a child.

The first time I felt that tiny flutter of shared blood and life inside me, I cried on the spot from happiness.

At last, I had a family member bound to me by blood.

Every day, my mate walked with me, painted with me, and sat with me listening to the wind.

He said, “Our pup is going to be gifted someday.”

I nodded and smiled. “Like her dad.”

But he answered in complete seriousness, “Like her mom.”

Then one day, fourteen months later, people came from the main city.

Three figures stood outside the gate of the courtyard-Griffin, Landon, and Daphne.

Griffin looked at me as if there were a thousand things trapped in his eyes, but in the end, they only became one sentence, so soft it was almost impossible to hear.

“Violet… how could you marry him?”

Landon stood beside him looking as though he had aged ten years all at once. There was far more white in

his hair now, and his eyes were bloodshot.

He said nothing. He only looked at me quietly, grief written all over his face.

Xavier lifted a brow slightly. His tone was mild, but there was steel hidden underneath it.

“Big brother, are you questioning my mate?”

“Shouldn’t you at least call her your sister-in-law? Your manners seem a little lacking.”

After saying that, he turned to look at me, a smile in his eyes.

I gave a small nod to show I didn’t care. I was dressed simply, my expression calm, and there was already a

gentle swell to my belly.

This was a peace I had never possessed before.

Griffin’s throat moved slightly, but in the end, he still could not force out another word.

Instead, it was Landon who suddenly bent at the waist and bowed deeply to me.

His voice trembled like someone pleading for mercy.

“Violet, I came here… only because I wanted to see you one more time.”

“If you’re living well, I… I could die content.”

I didn’t answer. I only ran my fingertips slowly along the rim of my coffee cup.

Then Landon drove a kick into Daphne, sending her crashing to her knees.

That face she had once thought beautiful enough to captivate anyone was now covered in knife scars. Half her hair was gone, and the old clothes on her body were patched and worn until she looked utterly

miserable.

She sprawled on the ground crying, her voice breaking apart.

“Violet, I was wrong. I deserve to die.”

“I was just jealous of you… You had a brother who adored you, and Griffin loved you too, while I had nothing.”

“I was the one who brought up Building Six in front of your brother… I said it would only scare you. I never meant for you to really… really be ruined like that…”
