He Used A Lottery Cup To Avoid Me, Only For Me To Mirror His Cruelty Chapter 07

Third Person POV

Troy made the call, but the answer made his vision go black.

“Dexter, the hospital says Fern’s mother was switched to a better medication a long time ago. She doesn’t

need your patent anymore.”

“Better medication?”

Dexter grabbed a nearby pillar to steady himself.

“Jasper helped develop it…”

So that was why Fern didn’t panic when he didn’t answer. Why Fern no longer used the rooftop to threaten

him into coming home.

That was why, after he’d returned, Fern had stopped watching him with that suspicious, paranoid look.

She’d been preparing to leave him all along.

“Then Fern…” Dexter forced a brittle smile and grabbed Troy. “She’s not coming back, is she?”

“There’s nothing I can do to make her come back, is there?”

Troy sighed.

“Jasper loves her, and they grew up together. They’ll probably get married. You might as well take this

chance to divorce her.”

“Hadley can’t get married now, so if you love her that much, just divorce Fern and marry her instead.”

Simon, standing nearby, added coolly, “If you accept a clean break with no assets, Fern will withdraw the lawsuit. Decide quickly, and don’t waste any more time. You might still be able to marry someone else.”

This was exactly what Dexter had once wanted.

Hadley couldn’t marry anyone else, so she’d have to choose him eventually.

But the thought of separating from Fern-of watching Fern become someone else’s wife-made his chest

ache so badly he couldn’t breathe.

When Hadley had told him she was leaving to marry someone else, he’d only felt a little sadness before accepting it.

He loved Hadley, didn’t he?

“I need to ask her myself!”

“We’ve been together for years. She barely knows Jasper! She’s just being seduced by him!”

Fern’s POV

By the time Dexter found us, Jasper and I were at a bar, singing.

Jasper had a flower between his teeth and was passing it to me when Dexter stormed over, snatched it, and

crushed it underfoot.

“Fern, our years together can’t just end like this.”

He pulled out a bank card and shoved it into Jasper’s hand.

“I know you saved Fern and took care of her. Thank you. There’s a hundred thousand on this card. Call it

compensation.”

“And don’t get the wrong idea. Fern only chose you because she wants to repay you.”

He turned back to me.

“Fern, baby, tell him to leave. Whatever you did with him before-even if it was too much-I don’t care. I won’t

blame you.”

“Just make him go, and we can live a good life together.”

I found it laughable.

“Aren’t you in love with Hadley? She can’t get married now, so you two can finally be together.”

“…”

I didn’t let him finish. I called security and had him escorted out.

When we finally came out of the bar, it was pouring rain. Dexter was still there, soaked to the bone, staring at

“Troy just called. He said Hadley has a fever and she’s crying.”

“I felt this sudden wave of disgust, and in that instant, I finally understood. Maybe the person I really love isn’t

her. It’s you.”

“I just realized it too late. I mistook pity for love.”

“I don’t want a divorce.”

“I know you hate me for ignoring your feelings, for causing you to lose our baby, for using that absurd lottery jar to justify my affair.”

“I know I was wrong. Terribly wrong. Fern, can you give me one more chance?”

I ignored him.

He lunged in front of me, his eyes filled with pain and resentment.

“You’re this determined because you want to marry Jasper, aren’t you?”

I admitted it.

He let out a wild, unhinged laugh.

Then he spun around and charged into traffic.
