My Fiancé Married My Adopted Sister, Then Called ME the Mistress?! Chapter 08

“You’re lying!” Andrea shrieked. “You and your mom are the real mistresses!”

Shawna ignored her and slammed her mother’s notebook against Andrea’s chest.

The notebook fell to the floor, and Idris picked it up, dragging Andrea out.

Idris’s words from outside were unintelligible; only Andrea’s broken wails echoed through the hallway.

“It’s not true! You’re lying to me!”

Gemma stared blankly at Shawna, only to meet a dangerously cold glare.

Gemma wanted to say something, but Shawna cut her off, “Get lost!”

Gemma froze, a flash of indignation in her eyes. “Shawna, we used to be best friends!”

Shawna let out a cold laugh. “I don’t have friends who stab me in the back.”

She didn’t even care to ask why Gemma had betrayed her.

All she knew was that anyone who turned on a friend should be thrown away without a second thought.

Gemma was kicked out.

And Andrea never set foot in the hospital again.

Idris kept his word, securing the top medical equipment and most expensive drugs for Shawna.

It wasn’t until after her surgery that Shawna learned from Idris that Andrea had terminated the pregnancy

and signed the divorce papers.

‘dris gazed at Shawna with intense devotion. “Shawna, will you marry me once you recover?”

“We can have another wedding, and I promise nothing will go wrong this time.”

Shawna looked at him indifferently, offering no reply.

Yet that flat, emotionless glance pierced Idris through the heart.

Idris wanted to plead his case, yet he had no idea what to say.

After the surgery, Idris took care of Shawna with meticulous attention.

Though Shawna barely spoke to him, it was clear she was getting better.

Her follow-up scan results looked promising.

The doctor noted that as long as she took care of herself and stayed in remission for five years, she would

live like any normal person.

On the day she was discharged, Shawna bought a burial plot so her mother could rest in peace.

Looking at her mother’s headstone, an indescribable ache swelled inside her.

“Mom, should I forgive Idris?”

“I just… can’t bring myself to let it go.”

Her mother had always been a gentle soul who loved her daughter dearly.

Shortly before passing, during one of her rare moments of clarity, she had repeatedly urged Shawna, “Live well. Don’t live in hatred. I only want you to be healthy and happy for the rest of your life.”

At that time, Shawna had already been diagnosed with cancer.

When her mother closed her eyes for the last time, Shawna had wept in sheer despair.

Now her illness was cured, yet she still couldn’t shed her resentment toward Idris.

So, early one ordinary morning, without leaving a word behind, Shawna left and boarded a flight to Cleveland.

In Cleveland, Shawna rented a cozy cottage with a garden.

With money in her account and a body that needed rest, she was in no rush to find a job.

Every morning, she woke up early to exercise, walked along Lake Erie for half an hour, and watered her

flowers.

After five long years of grinding, it was her first time experiencing such a peaceful life.

Her neighbors were an elderly couple who often shared fresh apple turnovers with her.

The days slipped by in quiet calm.

Gradually, she came to terms with all her resentment, and peace settled over her heart.

Then Idris appeared, shattering the tranquility.

Shawna was weeding her garden when she looked up to see Idris standing there, his eyes rimmed red.

“Shawna… come back with me, please. Let me take care of you.”

Shawna didn’t stop what she was doing. She simply shook her head.

“I’m doing fine on my own. I don’t need your care.”

Tears spilled down Idris’s face, his voice breaking.

“Shawna, I truly want to make amends. Could you please give me another chance?”

Shawna stopped weeding and stood up to look at him.
