My Fiancé Married My Adopted Sister, Then Called ME the Mistress?! Chapter 05

Idris froze.

Her mother passed away? She had cancer? Counting down the days?

It took him a long moment to process the words, almost doubting his own hearing.

“What did you just say?” he asked, his voice trembling.

Thelma was already furious about the project being snatched from Shawna after the buyout, so her tone was

sharp.

“Shawna’s health was weak long before she joined. She was only hired because of her rare blood type-she

saved our former boss after a car crash when he urgently needed a transfusion.”

“He wanted to give her a cash reward, but she was too proud to accept it.”

“Only the boss and I knew about this.”

Thelma’s resentment grew as she spoke.

“Shawna worked so hard. She was relying on that project bonus for her surgery, but now that’s completely

gone.”

Idris’s hands shook uncontrollably.

He was about to say something when Andrea walked in and interrupted.

“Thelma, how much did my sister pay you to put on this show? How dare you lie to Mr. Quinn?”

Idris looked at Andrea in confusion.

Andrea offered a faint smile and wrapped her arm around his.

“Idris, I care about my sister even more than you do.”

“After we parted at the hotel that day, I went to the hospital to check her records.”

“The doctor said no cancer patient named Shawna Chase ever sought treatment there.”

Hearing Andrea’s words, Idris sighed in relief.

He felt ridiculous.

Then came the anger.

He had actually been shaken by Shawna’s clumsy trick.

To him, she hadn’t changed one bit-still shameless, still showing no remorse.

Turning back to Thelma, his rage flared over being played by an employee.

“Pack your things. Don’t come back tomorrow.”

He wanted to teach Shawna a lesson.

He wanted her to know that whoever stood by her would get burned right alongside her.

He’d make her understand that from now on, she had nowhere else to turn but him, and she’d better behave.

Thelma shot to her feet, livid.

“No need to wait for tomorrow. I’m leaving right now. Not like I’m dying to work here anyway.”

Seeing Idris’s face darken, Andrea quickly led him away.

“She’s just an employee. Don’t let it get to you.”

“Idris, I’m hungry. Let’s go eat.”

As she spoke, Andrea gently stroked her still-flat belly.

Idris glanced down and said flatly. “Alright.”

When ordering food, he was clearly distracted.

Yet he still remembered to order the spicy fish stew that Shawna loved.

Andrea had never liked fish. But in the five years they had been together, Idris almost always ordered this

dish.

Suppressing her annoyance, Andrea asked softly, “Why do you always order this?”

Idris smiled faintly. “It tastes good. Not fishy.”

Andrea desperately wanted to ask if it was because Shawna loved it.

But she didn’t dare, terrified of provoking him.

The meal passed in dull silence.

After dropping Andrea off at home, Idris drove to the apartment.

Yet as he reached the door, he hesitated.

There was deep hatred between them. He paced outside for a long time until he figured out what to say.

Then he scanned his print and opened the door.

The scene inside froze him solid. All color drained from his face.

“Shawna!”
