He Wanted an Open Relationship, So I Accepted Another Proposal Chapter 11

I stood rooted to the spot, unable to move.

Grant lay on the ground, his face smeared with blood and dust until he looked like mud.

Adrian stood in front of him.

Blood still dripped from his knuckles.

Then he turned around.

The eyes that had just been full of violence softened the moment they landed on me.

He reached out, palm up. “Harper, don’t be scared. I’m here.”

I stumbled forward and buried my face in his chest.

Then I finally broke down, and all the hurt, fear, and disgust of being lied to came pouring out as I cried against his chest.

When the police came, Adrian didn’t resist.

Before he left, he squeezed my hand.

His voice was gentle as he comforted me. “Don’t worry. It’ll be fine.”

I went to the hospital.

Grant had a brace on his nose, and his face was swollen out of shape.

The moment he saw me, his eyes lit up.

“Harper, I didn’t mean those awful things. I was wrong. I was jealous of him. Seeing you with him drove me crazy. That’s why I said all that.”

I looked at him blankly.

“I don’t care anymore. You stopped mattering to me a long time ago. Nothing you say means anything

now.”

“It was my fault. All of it.” He struggled to sit up. “I don’t like Maddie. It’s always been you. I was too greedy. I had you and still wanted more.”

“There’s no point saying this now,” I cut him off.

At last, I lifted my eyes.

My gaze passed over his swollen face like he was a stranger.

“What will make you drop the charges? Money? A business deal? I can find a way to give you whatever you

want.

He froze.

Then a desperate resolve filled his eyes.

“I only want you back. Get back together with me, and I’ll drop the case right away.”

“Impossible.” My answer was sharp and final. “Adrian and fare together.”

“I don’t care.”

“I don’t care what happened between you and him during this time. Before, everything was my fault.”

“From now on, we’ll let the past go. When I get out, we’ll get engaged, okay?”

I suddenly remembered all the times he had stepped on my heart.

All the times he had smiled and said I couldn’t leave him.

The corner of my mouth moved.

But I couldn’t smile. “I won’t get back together with you.”

I stood and walked to the door.

Only then did I look back at him.

“Adrian hit you because you deserved it. He did nothing wrong. If you insist on putting him in jail, then I’ll wait for him. No matter how long it takes.”

I opened the door.

Outside stood Maddie, holding a fruit basket.

Her makeup was smeared from crying.

The moment she saw me, hatred filled her eyes.

It looked like she wanted to carve a piece out of me.

Inside the room, glass shattered.

Then Grant’s hysterical roar rang out.

“Get out. Didn’t I tell you we’re done? I don’t want to see you again. Isn’t it money you want?”

“I’ll give it to you.”

“I’ll give you all of it.”

I didn’t even slow down.

Only after falling for someone like Adrian did I finally understand.

The warm water he handed me, the soft kiss on my forehead, and the quiet way he looked at me were all

rare.

And some people were so filthy that even looking at them felt dirty.
