The moment I said it, everyone in the room looked at me like I’d lost my mind.

Ethan, however, still looked completely unfazed.

“Hart, what the hell are you talking about now?”

“The Caldwell family has been a fixture in Boston for years. You think we’re suddenly going

bankrupt because you said so?”

“I’m divorcing you tonight. I’d love to see what you think you can do about it.”

I lifted my eyes to him, my voice cold.

“So you were lying to me from the beginning. Is that it?”

I almost never interfered in company business, but this time Ethan had gone too far.

“That’s right. The only reason I agreed to marry you was because my father wanted it.”

“Now I’m the one running Caldwell Holdings. I get to make my own choices.”

I stared at him without expression.

“Ethan, you’re about to pay for every choice you’ve made tonight.”

Richard visibly panicked.

He moved to stop his son, but one hard look from me froze him in place.

I’d put up with enough for one night. It was time Ethan found out what I was actually capable of.

“Ethan, you want a divorce? Fine. I’ll give you one.”

“But I have one condition.”

“Name it. Money? A house? Whatever you want, I can give it to you.”

I smiled and shook my head.

“I only want you to remember one thing. Once we’re divorced, don’t come crying to me and begging me to take you back.”

Ethan thought I was making one last desperate attempt to hold on to him. His tone grew even

more contemptuous.

“If I ever regret it, I’ll crawl back like a dog. Happy?”

That smug look on his face wiped out the last bit of goodwill I had left for the Caldwell family.

“You’ve misunderstood me. I was never trying to change your mind.”

“I’m telling you this decision is going to destroy the entire Caldwell family.”

Out of respect for the history between our families, I’d originally planned to show the Caldwells

mercy. Some people just didn’t know when they were being given a chance.

Ethan Caldwell, the new chairman of Caldwell Holdings, was one of them.

“Give me a break.”

“Hart, take a good look at yourself. You’re nowhere near good enough for me.”

When Ethan looked ready to keep going, I raised a hand and cut him off.

“Enough. I’ve played along with this charade long enough. I’m tired.”

“Now it’s my turn.”
