She Called Me A Kept Woman, I Kept The Family Fortune Chapter 06

Richard didn’t even glance at his son. He hurried straight to me.

Then, in front of everyone, the founder of Caldwell Holdings took both my hands in his.

“Ms. Hart, are you all right?”

I smiled and nodded.

“I’m fine, Richard. Really. You don’t need to be so formal with me.”

“I’m not your daughter-in-law anymore.”

The moment I said it, sweat beaded across Richard’s forehead.

He looked at his son and instantly understood what had happened.

Richard turned back to me cautiously, about to speak, but one look from me stopped him.

“Ethan! Get over here. Now.”

Richard’s roar silenced the ballroom.

The guests stared in confusion. None of them understood why the founder of Caldwell Holdings was so furious.

Then Richard showed them exactly why.

A sharp slap cracked through the ballroom, leaving Ethan stunned.

“You idiot. Who gave you the right to divorce Ms. Hart behind my back? Answer me.”

Ethan stood there dazed, staring at his father in confusion.

“Dad, why did you hit me?”

“It’s just a divorce. Why are you acting like this is the end of the world?”

“Besides, I’m the chairman of Caldwell Holdings. I can have any woman I want.”

Richard shook with anger. Even getting the words out seemed to take effort.

“You fool. You still have the nerve to ask me why?”

“Marrying Ms. Hart was the greatest stroke of luck you ever had. The same goes for this entire

family.”

“If I hadn’t gotten here in time tonight, you would’ve destroyed the whole Caldwell family with your

own hands.”

Richard’s words rang through the room, but Ethan still looked completely lost.

He couldn’t understand how an ordinary stay-at-home wife like me could possibly hold the fate of the Caldwell family in her hands.

“Dad, what are you even talking about?”

“Evelyn’s just a kept woman our family has supported for years. Why shouldn’t I be able to divorce

her?”

Ethan’s words carried through the ballroom, and the guests around him nodded in agreement.

Richard clearly didn’t agree.

To everyone else, he probably looked like an aging businessman who’d finally lost touch with

reality.

But I knew exactly what he was doing. This was his last attempt to save the Caldwell family.

I found a seat with a perfect view and settled in, letting the founder of Caldwell Holdings take the stage for a while.

Richard didn’t disappoint me. He stopped caring about appearances and pointed straight at his

son.

“Ethan Caldwell, as the founder of this company, I am ordering you to apologize to Ms. Hart right

now.”

“If she doesn’t forgive you, then as far as I’m concerned, I don’t have a son.”

Richard’s words seemed to crush the last of Ethan’s confidence.

On one side was his own father. On the other, his young, beautiful assistant. For the first time, he

hesitated.

That was when Madison stepped forward.

“Mr. Caldwell, Ethan and I truly love each other. Please don’t tear us apart.”

I looked at the remarkably bold woman in front of me and spoke slowly.

“True love. How touching.”

“I wonder if you’ll feel the same way after Caldwell Holdings goes bankrupt.”
