His Last Mistake Was Letting Me Go Chapter 01

His Last Mistake Was Letting Me Go Chapter 01

My family might as well have been cursed. Men and women alike, everyone in our bloodline struggled with fertility.

Because of that, the first child born in every generation, son or daughter, was raised as the family heir, the future head of our trillion-dollar family empire.

In my generation, I was the first to conceive.

The day the pregnancy was confirmed, I went home overflowing with joy, planning to tell my husband the news in person.

Now that I was pregnant, I could finally bring him before the Ashford family properly, and the business crisis he was facing would resolve itself the moment my pregnancy became known.

But when I got home, there was another woman in the house.

Adrian Hale looked at me calmly and said, “Sienna is back.”

“So let’s get divorced.”

I gently rested a hand over my stomach.

It seemed Adrian and this child simply weren’t meant to be. Since he had lost his chance to use this child to expand his business reach, I would keep the baby and cut out the father.

Sienna Prescott was Adrian’s childhood sweetheart.

Eight years ago, she had moved overseas, and Adrian had been devastated.

My best friend, who also happened to be Adrian’s sister, had been the one who set us up.

By the time I learned Adrian had once loved someone so deeply, we were already married.

Everyone had a past, so I had never held it against him. I just never expected him to still be unable to let Sienna go.

She had only just come back, and he was already divorcing me.

I glanced at the table full of food. It was a lavish spread, beautifully prepared and fragrant enough to fill the room.

Adrian had not even taken off his apron.

I had known him for eight years and been married to him for six, yet I had never known he could cook.

I sat down and asked, “Is this my last supper?”

“I’m sorry.” Adrian removed the apron. “This is Sienna’s welcome-home dinner. She doesn’t like sharing, and I promised her that whenever I cooked, it would only be for her.”

He stepped aside and picked up a divorce agreement that had clearly been prepared in advance.

“If you agree to the divorce, sign it and move out.”

He really couldn’t wait to kick me out.

I picked up the agreement, my brows tightening slightly.

The terms were written clearly. I would leave with nothing.

I said nothing and quietly picked up the pen.

I could accept divorce. But Adrian had gone too far. If he had divided the marital assets fairly, I would not have said a word.

Since he had chosen to be ruthless, I would take back everything that belonged to me in my own way.

After signing, I took off my wedding ring and stood to leave.

Sienna spoke coldly. “Wait.”

“Open your bag. Let me see what’s inside.”

I looked at Adrian. “Are you going to search me?”

“Sienna is in charge here now. Do what she says.” he said.
