The Luna They Never Made Room For Chapter 04

The Luna They Never Made Room For Chapter 04

I do not know how much time passes before Dad finally notices something is wrong.

By then, my clothes are already soaked in blood.

“Annie, why are you bleeding so much?!”

Barely clinging to life, I am rushed to the pack hospital.

When I wake up again, the pain in my chest is even worse. In a daze, I hear voices outside.

“The older daughter almost died, and they were only worried about the younger one’s sprained ankle!”

“Exactly! And it’s barely even an injury, yet they spend a fortune hiring a healer just for her…”

The moment they realize I am awake, they stop talking and turn to me with concerned expressions.

“You’re awake. Does anything else hurt?”

I gently shake my head.

They smile and say they will go notify my parents.

But I wait for a long time, and my parents never appear.

Why do I still expect anything from them?

It is not until midnight that Dad finally comes.

“Your mom made this chicken soup especially for you. Let me feed you some.”

I do not look at him, “I can do it myself.”

He sighs and softens his voice.

“Annie, don’t blame your mother. She feels like she owes Tammy too much. She has always believed Tammy being born prematurely was her fault.”

Something aches sharply in my chest, but my voice remains calm, “I know.”

He stays silent for a long time before finally closing the door and leaving.

I spend a week in the pack hospital.

Every day, Mom brings chicken soup.

More accurately, she brings it for Tammy and gives some to me while she is there.

She rarely stays in my room for more than three minutes, and even her concerned questions feel like something she is simply checking off a list.

But I no longer care. After all, I am about to leave the pack.

There is just one strange thing.

Most of the college admission results are already out, but I still have not received my acceptance letter.

I cannot shake the uneasy feeling, so I borrow a laptop and log into the university’s admissions portal.

My heart sinks when I see the status: Offer Declined.

Someone has declined my admission offer on my behalf, and the university has closed my application.

A chill runs through my entire body.

I do not even think about my chest wound as I rush straight to Tammy’s room.

“Mom, did you decline my college offer for me?”

Mom is sitting beside Tammy’s bed, peeling fruit for her.

She does not even look up when I question her, “Yes.”

“That is the college I worked so hard to get into!”

My voice trembles uncontrollably, “Why would you decline it for me? What gives you the right to make that decision for me?!”

Mom finally looks up. There is not a trace of guilt on her face.

“Tammy is taking the SAT next year. She’s timid and scared about going away to college alone.”

“You can repeat senior year and apply again next year, then you can both go to the same college and look after each other. Isn’t that the best solution for everyone?”

I freeze.

My chest tightens with every breath.

I study until my eyes burn. I pull countless all-nighters, go through pen after pen, and work my way through stacks of practice tests.

After all that, I finally earn my place at college.

Yet my future, my life, and even my very existence have always been nothing more than backup options whenever Tammy needs something.

This family, this pack, does not just refuse to give me a bed where I can sleep peacefully.

They refuse to leave even the smallest place for me in my own future.

Mom continues spoon-feeding chicken soup to Tammy as she lies in bed scrolling through her phone.

I wipe away my tears.

Then I take one last look at the mother who has exhausted every bit of hope I have ever had.

I discharge myself from the hospital, gather all my belongings, shift into my white wolf form, and carry my luggage in my mouth.

Step by step, I run away without ever looking back.

I am never coming back again.
