The Luna They Never Made Room For Chapter 05

The Luna They Never Made Room For Chapter 05

It is not until the next morning that my parents finally make their way to my hospital room.

When they push the door open, the blankets are neatly folded, but the bed is empty.

Mom calls my name several times. When no one answers, her face immediately darkens.

“That girl is so stubborn. Is she still throwing a tantrum? Who knows where she ran off to this early in the morning.”

Dad, however, feels an inexplicable sense of unease. He quickly stops a nurse passing by.

“Excuse me, where did the patient in this bed go? How could she just disappear this morning?”

The nurse checks the records and shakes her head, “I’m sorry. We don’t know where she went

either.”

Dad’s expression changes instantly.

“You don’t know? She’s a child. How could someone disappear from your hospital without anyone

noticing?”

Mom tugs at his arm, looking annoyed.

“Is this really worth making such a fuss over? She ran away over something this trivial. When she

comes back, I’ll teach her a proper lesson.”

An older woman nearby has been listening to their conversation. She finally sets down her cup and

cannot hold back.

“Now you’re worried about finding your daughter? Last night, she nearly died, and the two of you

only cared about your younger daughter. Her heart must have been completely broken. Of course

she didn’t want to stay here.”

Mom’s face turns red, then white, but she still refuses to admit fault.

“Ma’am, this is a private family matter. There’s no need for outsiders to interfere. Besides, Annie has always been sensible. She doesn’t need me watching her every second.”

“So being sensible means she deserves to be treated unfairly?”

The older woman folds her arms and shoots back coldly.

“I saw it with my own eyes a few days ago. She was stabbed with silver, lost a massive amount of blood, and nearly died. And what did you two do?”

“Your younger daughter only sprained her ankle, yet you hired a Healer and bought her all kinds of

supplements. Meanwhile, your older daughter was lying alone in a hospital room with neither

parent beside her.”

“People have feelings, you know. Anyone would leave after being treated like that.”

Her words make the patients and family members passing by turn their heads. One after another, suspicious glances fall on my parents.

As a member of the pack’s Beta family, Dad can no longer bear the embarrassment. He quickly pulls Mom back before she can argue and quietly tells her to stop.

Mom clenches her fists.

For the first time, a strange sense of panic begins to creep into her heart.

But she still refuses to admit that she has done anything wrong.

In her mind, I barely have any money. How long could a girl who ran away from home possibly

survive?

A few days at most. Then I would come crawling back home on my own.

In the room next door, Tammy is lying in bed scrolling through short videos.

Hearing the commotion outside, she pokes her head out and says casually, “Let her go. At least no one will be fighting me for things anymore. Once she runs out of money, she’ll come back on her

own.”

The moment Mom hears this, the tiny trace of guilt in her eyes disappears.

She walks over and gently strokes Tammy’s hair.

“You’re right. She won’t last more than a few days. She’ll come running back.”

Dad silently accepts the same explanation and turns around to complete Tammy’s discharge paperwork.

When they return home, he walks straight into the shared bedroom.

The narrow upper bunk is completely buried beneath Tammy’s belongings. Luxury shopping boxes

are stacked one on top of another, leaving barely any room to stand.

He stares at it in silence for a long time before turning toward the sofa in the living room, barely three feet long.

His Adam’s apple moves as he swallows.

His voice drops low, “How tall is Annie now? She’s almost an adult. How is she supposed to sleep on

a bunk that small? And that sofa… how has she been sleeping on it every time she comes home?”

At first, Mom still looks unconcerned. She frowns and immediately tries to defend herself.

“How have we mistreated her? We never let her go hungry. She has food and clothes. She only sleeps on the sofa for a few days.”

“Besides, doesn’t she have everything Tammy has?”

Desperate to prove that she has done nothing wrong, Mom instinctively starts listing everything they have given us.

But as she continues, her voice gradually fades.

Tammy’s shoe rack is packed with all kinds of shoes. I have only one worn-out pair of canvas

sneakers.

Most of the closet is filled with Tammy’s coats, dresses, and clothes for every season.

They search through the entire room, yet there are barely any clothes that belong to me.

The vanity is covered with Tammy’s complete sets of skincare and makeup.

I do not even own a decent hand cream.

Even in the bathroom, I use an old towel that has been washed until it is stiff and has been there for

years.

The more Mom counts, the emptier she feels inside.

The words she had been using to prove that she treated us fairly become harder and harder to say.

Dad lowers his eyes, exhaustion showing in his expression.

After a long silence, he finally speaks in a hoarse voice.

“Tammy has so many things that there isn’t even enough room for them. They’re piled all over Annie’s bed.”

He pauses, his voice dropping even lower, “But Annie…”

He looks around the room.

“It seems like she has nothing in this house.”
