I Haunted His Dreams After He Dumped Me For My Roommate Chapter 09

He knew.

I was trapped in his car, nowhere to hide.

But I never planned to hide anyway. I wanted to savor his face the moment he found out.

“So fun.” I asked him, “Was it fun? Being pathetic for once?”

Ethan didn’t answer.

He drove smooth, but fast. Derek’s car vanished behind us long ago.

The GPS guided us near the hilltop mansion district when we passed Observatory Hill.

Ethan suddenly spoke. “After the hurricane, let’s go to the observatory.”

Back during our sweetest online summer, I was dying to meet him in person. I spent forever picking the perfect date spot-this very observatory. I’d never been there. I didn’t know that for someone who lived in the hilltop mansions it was nothing special.

Maybe back then, when I excitedly suggested it, his first reaction was a silent sneer.

Too bad it rained the day we met. The observatory was closed.

And in that brief month we dated after, he never took me.

Now he suddenly brought it up.

I looked out the window. The observatory I’d once wanted so badly drifted further and further away.

“I’m leaving tomorrow. I’m starting my research internship.” My voice was calm. “Take Vera. She’ll probably love it.”

Inside the car, the only sound was the windshield wipers.

The rain was getting heavier.

The car suddenly stopped.

“Engine died,” Ethan said. “Waiting for a tow.”

He got out, checking the car while making a call. His bangs hid his eyes; I couldn’t read anything

there.

A few minutes later, he knocked on my window. He motioned for me to get out and head to a sma

cabin nearby to take shelter.

The owner was kind, handing us towels for our hair.

Ethan took one and draped it over my head without thinking, gently drying my hair. Like we’d never

broken up.

I pulled the towel off and met his cool, dark eyes. His hair was still dripping wet.

Back when we dated, he always held the umbrella so carelessly. He’d never once looked at me with this kind of worry.

I smacked his hand away.

But he seized the chance and held on tight. No matter how I struggled, he wouldn’t let go.

Ethan looked down. His Adam’s apple shifted as he forced himself to steady his breathing.

It was the exact same expression he wore in the dream when kissing me felt so good he couldn’t handle it.

When he lifted his eyes again, he’d reset to his usual polished self. “Sorry. I just wanted to help you dry off.”

I yanked my hand back. “Stop pretending.”

“Yeah.” He admitted it instantly. “I just wanted to hold your hand.”

That’s when I noticed he’d changed before coming down the mountain. He was wearing the same outfit from the first time he kissed me.

Back then, I’d told him he looked amazing and hoped he’d wear it more. Honestly, with his build, he looked good in anything. What I really meant was I wished he could like me a little more. The way I liked him.

But I didn’t want that anymore.

I asked, “When did you know it was me in the dream?”

“When I saw the hickey, But I only confirmed it just now.”

I glanced at him. “Are you and Vera together?”

“No.”

So he’d figured it out before the System could tell him.

Ethan looked down at me. “I only like the girl who told me she loved me in those dreams. I

should’ve known. I should’ve known it was you.”

“Yvonne, let’s get back together. You still like me, don’t you?”

I looked up and said evenly, “No. I just wanted revenge.”

“What gave you the right to look down on me? Your degree? Your face? Your family?”

“If I had all that, at least I wouldn’t be as arrogant as you.”

“I just wanted you to know what it feels like. To care that much and get stomped on.’

I said it word by word.

“Ethan. Messing with you was fun. But I’m done playing now.”

I didn’t want to be alone with him another second. I pulled out my phone to call Derek.

The second it connected, Ethan’s elegant, pale fingers snatched it and hung up. He handed the phone back.

“Let’s go.” He said, “The car’s fine. I just wanted to spend a little more time with you.”
