Fiancé?Sorry, My Memory Was Wiped Chapter 06

Watching Marcus fall apart, Evelyn almost laughed.

That woman was finally gone.

A nuisance.

An eyesore.

From now on, the man second only to the big boss in power would belong entirely to her.

One day, Marcus would take over Belladonna.

And once she became Mrs. Hale, everyone who’d ever looked down on her would have to crawl at

her feet.

But her happiness didn’t last long.

Shade’s disappearance seemed to drain every bit of life from Marcus.

Like Adam losing Eve.

Except Marcus hadn’t lost a rib.

He’d lost his spine.

Nothing Evelyn imagined came true.

Marcus didn’t turn to her for comfort.

Instead, he spiraled.

Fast.

During a routine cleanup operation, he lost focus.

A dying target managed to fight back and wound him.

The big boss ordered him to stand down indefinitely.

That was when the drinking started.

Bottles of top-shelf liquor piled up in the corners of the living room.

The mixed stench became nauseating.

Marcus stopped caring how he looked.

His clothes stayed rumpled.

His eyes stayed unfocused.

He ignored the dinners Evelyn carefully prepared.

Ignored every gentle word she offered.

Then drank himself into oblivion.

Once, he vomited everywhere right in front of her.

Evelyn fought down her nausea.

She pinched her nose and cleaned up the mess.

She tended to him obsessively, hoping her devotion would finally make him cherish her.

Marcus barely looked at her.

When he was too drunk to know where he was, he’d curl up on the couch.

And murmur the same vanished name over and over.

“Shade…”

“Come back…”

“Please…”

Every word stabbed into Evelyn like a poisoned needle.

She’d done so much.

She’d even injured herself to frame Shade.

And somehow, she was still losing to a woman who wasn’t even there.

Jealousy and resentment burned through what remained of her reason.

She used operatives to spread a rumor.

An affiliated operative had supposedly spotted Shade’s body in a conflict zone.

They’d even found the leather wallet Shade always carried.

The moment Marcus saw the warped wallet, something inside him broke completely.

He locked himself inside his place for an entire week.

He saw no one.

The time had come.

Evelyn carried a carefully prepared electrolyte drink into the room reeking of alcohol.

She studied Marcus’s gaunt profile.

Something ruthless flashed in her eyes.

After tonight, his status and sense of duty would leave him no choice but to take responsibility for

her.

Once she had him, she could take her time winning his heart.

Eventually, she’d win his heart too.

“Marc, drink some electrolytes.”

“You’ll feel better.”

Her voice stayed soft as she helped his barely conscious body upright.

Marcus didn’t suspect a thing.

He drank the spiked electrolyte drink while she held the glass to his lips.

Evelyn watched his throat move as he swallowed.

Then she set down the glass.

Her fingertips trembled with excitement.

The drug would kick in soon.

This time, she would never let him go.
