I Saw Our Remaining Meetings Dropped From 31441 To 9 Chapter 16

He’s my future husband did he really think he was sleeping in a separate room? Dream on.

I’d snuck into his bedroom in the middle of the night. And didn’t he end up holding me tight anyway?

I pinched his cheek and admired my boyfriend’s drowsy sleeping face with pure satisfaction.

Damn, I scored.

The second I stepped onto campus, a fierce force slammed into my shoulders. Miles frowned and instinctively shielded me, nearly stumbling.

When I saw Carter-bloodshot eyes, dark bruises underneath-I scowled.

“What the hell is wrong with you? You on a rampage or something?”

His eyes were terrifyingly red. The veins screamed he hadn’t slept at all.

“Where did you two go last night? Neither of you came back to the dorm?”

Miles remembered waking up that morning to find me curled against his chest, and the tips of his ears flushed again. That flash of red set Carter off.

He cursed and lunged forward.

I stepped in front of Miles and blocked him.

“Where I go with my boyfriend is none of your damn business”

Carter’s eyes went glassy, the edges turning redder.

“Rowan, you said I was your future husband. You said we’d be together forever.”

“You said you could see the number above my head-that we still had such a long future. Now you’re doing this just to hurt me? Do you seriously think my heart can’t break?”

“I’m human, okay? I know I messed up. I’ll follow the Code from now on. No more games with other girls. Look at my number-we still have so many years. Please, Rowan. Don’t shut me out like this…”

I’d rarely seen Carter cry. But now his tears were rolling down, thick and fast.

Beside me, Miles’s face paled slightly he’d obviously heard Carter trash-talk my ability in the

dorms.

That only made Carter more convinced. He stared at me, unblinking.

“Can we just stop? Stop hurting each other with other people? I haven’t slept since I found out about you two. Last night when you didn’t answer, I went insane. I’ll behave–I promise. Forget twenty-five. Let’s be together now:..”

I looked at Miles, then at Carter, sobbing so hard he could barely stand. I spoke softly. “You didn’t

believe it before.”

His eyes turned even redder. “I believe it now. I’ll believe anything you say. I’ll listen to everything. Rowan, let’s make up…”

I pointed at his head, then at Miles’s.

“But Carter.”

Under his desperate, hopeful gaze, I said it quietly.

“That number’s gone from your head. It moved to Miles the second you showed me his photo.”

The air went dead. Remembering how weird I’d acted that day and how he’d killed his phone screen

in a panic, Carter’s face went ash-white.

“That’s impossible. How could it…”

I glanced at the 2 above his head. Then I pressed my lips together and pulled Miles away without

another word.

A soft breeze stirred. After chewing on it for a few minutes, I turned to explain.

“I didn’t like you just because of that number. I-”

When I looked back, his eyes were dazzling. He looked so happy he could barely contain it.

Okay. He was way too happy.
