My Secret Guardian Is an Incubus Chapter 05

My Secret Guardian Is an Incubus Chapter 05 The Breaking Point
My mouth twitched slightly.
As if I couldn’t tell the floating comments were turning this entire situation into porn already.
But more importantly—
Lucien was outside?
When had he gotten there?
The moment I remembered the comments talking about him “snapping” and dragging me away, panic instantly shot through me.
I yanked my wrist out of Ethan’s grip.
“What the hell are you talking about?”
“I didn’t stay single because I was waiting for you, and I stopped loving you a long time ago!”
“Ethan Cole, get out of my apartment.”
Ethan stared at me in disbelief, brows tightly furrowed.
“Annie… are you still angry about the past?”
“But I came back, didn’t I? I swear I’ll treat you properly this time. I’ll love you the way I should’ve before.”
The floating comments exploded again.
“God, men really do think saying ‘I’ve changed’ fixes everything.”
“If Annie actually marries him, her future is DONE. This loser’s absolutely cheating again the second he gets comfortable.”
“Meanwhile Lucien is outside losing his damn mind right now. One night apart and another man already walked into her apartment.”
“BRO GO INSIDE ALREADY. Kidnap her. Carry her away. Give us the R-rated bonus chapter.”
“He’s an incubus who’s been obsessing over her for three years. Annie’s tiny human body is NOT surviving this.”
“Forget surviving. She won’t be able to walk for three days.”
Three days.
Hospital.
Doctor.
Those words hit me like a truck.
I physically shivered.
If I really ended up hospitalized because of sex, I’d become the laughingstock of Blackwater City.
At that thought, the disgust in my chest toward Ethan intensified instantly.
I looked at him coldly.
“What exactly makes you think you’re worth coming back for?”
“Your love means absolutely nothing to me now.”
“So get out.”
“I never want to see you again.”
Ethan froze.
Clearly, he never imagined I’d say something like that.
But then his gaze landed on the broken porcelain figurines scattered across the floor.
And suddenly—
He smiled again.
Certain.
Confident.
“Stop pretending, Annie.”
“If you didn’t still love me, why haven’t you dated anybody all these years?”
“You’re obviously still hurt.”
“And those figurines—if you really moved on, why keep them?”
His voice softened deliberately.
“Come home with me.”
“Marry me.”
“This time, I’ll love you properly.”
The comments nearly lost their minds.
“OH MY GOD Lucien’s outside clenching his fists so hard he’s shaking.”
“This is a full-on war zone. Annie better answer carefully unless she wants to end up handcuffed to a headboard tonight.”
“Lucien is actually insane enough to kill somebody if she says yes.”
“And then he’d drag her home and keep her there for DAYS.”
“The craziest part is he STILL won’t walk in because he wants to hear her answer first.”
“This man is literally seconds away from snapping.”
“Countdown to violence in 10… 9… 8…”
THAT FAST?!
My scalp tingled with panic.
Without thinking, I rushed forward and swept every porcelain figurine off the desk.
CRASH.
Pieces shattered across the floor.
Then I stormed toward the front door and yanked it open.
Lucien stood outside.
Tall.
Silent.
Black coat slightly open from the night wind.
For the first time since I met him, his composure looked dangerously thin.
There was something terrifying sitting behind those crimson eyes.
He looked startled when the door flew open.
But before he could say anything—
I grabbed his collar and kissed him.
Hard.
Lucien’s entire body locked up instantly.
“Annie—mmph…”
