With Gavin shielding her, Rebecca had no reason to hold back.

She poured every ounce of resentment and jealousy she had onto me.

Electric shocks. Whippings. Drugs.

In the places Gavin couldn’t see, I endured all of it.

“Samantha, sometimes I genuinely feel sorry for you.”

“The whole time Gavin’s been with you, he never stopped talking to me.”

“Why do you think he flies out of the country every single week? Everywhere you can’t see him, he’s with me.”

“You? He just feels guilty. Because of our little game, he killed your parents.”

Gavin kept me locked up for three days.

Every time he tried to come see me, Rebecca pulled him away.

Then one day, to appease Rebecca, Gavin threw a party on his yacht.

He lost another game.

This time, the penalty was replacing the bride with Rebecca.

Rebecca was the one who told me.

She grabbed me by the hair, laughing that wild, triumphant laugh.

“Samantha, what do you even have that compares to me?”

She dragged me onto the yacht. The moment Gavin saw the marks on my body, his expression darkened.

He turned a cold glare on Rebecca.

“What did you do to her?”

Rebecca’s smile faltered for a second, but she quickly grabbed his hand.

“Didn’t you say a little punishment was fine? My wound still hurts, you know.”

“She can’t just stab me and get away with it.”

Something complicated and almost tender passed through Gavin’s eyes.

He knelt in front of me and wiped the blood from my face.

“Today is about making things right with Rebecca. Once the party’s over, I’ll take you home.”

“Whatever Rebecca does, don’t fight back. You’re the one who was in the wrong.”

The guests at this party were the same crowd from my birthday.

They spotted me immediately—huddled in the corner, wrecked.

The sympathy from last time was gone. In its place, amusement.

They started sucking up to Rebecca.

“Rebecca, when are you and Gavin making it official? Better hurry before some nobody swoops in and steals him again.”

Rebecca didn’t deny it.

Instead, she held up her hand with a coy smile, showing off a ring.

A matching set with Gavin’s.

“Start picking out your outfits for the wedding.”

They laughed knowingly, glancing at me every few seconds, waiting for a reaction.

I kept my head down and said nothing.

“But first, I’ve got a little show for you all.”

Rebecca drew out the words, and something cold crawled up my spine. I looked up.

She clapped her hands, and two men carried my parents’ bodies onto the deck and dumped them there.

The crowd recoiled, faces twisted in disgust.

“Gavin, one last favor.”

“Throw them overboard.”

A ringing sound filled my skull, and the taste of blood flooded my throat.

I shot to my feet, but my injuries sent me crashing back to the ground.

“No! Gavin, those are my parents—please, just leave them alone. I’ll bury them properly.”

“I was wrong. I’ll apologize. I’ll do whatever you want. Just give them back to me.”

I begged him. I had nothing left.

“You promised me. You said you’d take care of their bodies.”

Gavin hesitated. He couldn’t even bring himself to look at the two corpses—the people he’d killed with his own hands.

“They’re just going in the water. I’ll have someone pull them out right away. It’ll be fine.”

I stared at him, numb.

A second later, Rebecca shoved them over the railing.

The crowd broke into applause.

I dragged myself to the railing with everything I had, and without a moment’s hesitation, I threw myself into the ocean after them.

A scream erupted from the deck.

“Samantha jumped!”

Gavin whipped around. One look was all it took to break him completely.
