I Was The Wrong Girl In His Bed For Three Years Chapter 04

I pressed my lips together.

Graham had never told me any of this.

When I didn’t answer, Sloane gave a quick, apologetic smile.

“That’s my fault. I talk too much.”

“You’re married now. I’m sure you already know all of this.”

She switched Graham’s scotch out for a glass of water.

“You always had that stomach ulcer, but you could never give up your bourbon.”

“I used to have to nag you to take your medicine.”

“And those dark circles. Have you not been sleeping again?”

She laid out a whole history with him I never knew existed, right there in front of me.

I opened my mouth to speak more than once.

But there was nothing I could add.

Graham kept his usual distance, but he didn’t deny a word of it.

“That was a long time ago. No need to bring it up.”

Sloane dropped her gaze.

“You’re right.”

“Now that Maren’s looking after you, I’m sure she does it better than I ever could.”

My fingers tightened around my wineglass.

I didn’t know Graham hated cilantro.

I didn’t know bourbon aggravated his ulcer.

I had no idea he couldn’t sleep.

He ate everything I made without a word.

I always assumed he just wasn’t picky.

At night, I’d curl into his arms and fall asleep holding him.

I never knew he was lying awake the whole time.

But Sloane knew all of it.

She smiled at me, warm and gentle.

“Maren, don’t take it the wrong way.’

“We used to talk about everything back then. It was all online, but still.’

“Some habits are hard to shake.”

Graham wasn’t cold by nature.

I was just never the person he wanted to open up to.

The comments appeared.

[THIS is what soulmates look like. All she has is a pretty face. She could never compete with that.]

[If Graham hadn’t mixed her up with someone else, she never would’ve been Mrs. Sterling in the first place.]

[Sloane literally stepped aside for her, and after stealing someone else’s life for 3 years, she still has the nerve to act like SHE’S the victim? The audacity.]

My hands shook.

Red wine splashed over the front of my dress.

Graham reached for me.

I flinched back before he could touch me and made myself smile.

“Sorry. I’m going to step outside for a minute.”

I made it to the garden before the tears came.

“Maren?”

Wesley was coming out through the side door.

He saw my dress and pulled off his jacket without a word, draping it over my shoulders.

“Why are you crying? What happened?”

“Nothing.”

I looked away and wiped my eyes.

Wesley sighed and rubbed my back.

“Maren, seeing you cry is literally the weirdest thing ever.”

“When we were kids, you were the one making me cry.”

That got a laugh out of me. I swatted his arm.

“You little brat. I could still make you cry.”

A hand closed around my wrist.

Graham was right behind me.

His eyes locked on Wesley’s hand on my shoulder, and the look on his face could’ve frozen the air between us.
