The Donna Who Bought Out Family and Love for $100 Million Chapter 06

By the next day, the shooting at Mondello Beach had been fully investigated.

The attacker was Don Marcelli’s fourth son, who was retaliating after Ronan went after him for plotting against Levon. Don Marcelli had since stripped him of his assets and banished him to a remote island.

With the matter settled, I should have been able to distance myself from everything involving the Marcelli

Family.

Instead, Ronan started showing up every few days.

That day, I was heading out to try a local trattoria when I found him waiting outside yet again.

His Lamborghini was parked squarely across my gate, making sure I had no way to avoid him.

Ronan lowered the window, an easy smile playing on his lips.

“Ms. Marenno, what a coincidence. Where are you going? Let me drive you.”

I rubbed my forehead.

“Ronan, this isn’t a coincidence. This is my house, and this is the eighth time you’ve shown up this week.”

And here I had thought he was mature and steady. Beneath that composed exterior, he was domineering and

possessive to the core.

He smiled, feigning surprise.

“Really? I had no idea we’d run into each other so many times. We must be destined to keep meeting, Ms.

Marenno.”

When he saw that I was about to lose my temper, he finally raised both hands in surrender.

“Don’t be angry, Evelina.”

“I owe you. Sicily isn’t exactly peaceful, and you refuse to accept the security detail I offered you. You’ll be

safer if I drive.”

I was at a loss.

How had things come to this?

I had brought Levon home because I wanted the Marcelli Family’s protection to help me break free of

Cassian for good.

The Vescari Family was powerful, and I needed another family strong enough to make Cassian think twice.

Cassian was obsessive by nature. There was no chance he would simply accept my disappearance. If he

came after me, Levon’s support would at least force him to weigh the consequences for both Families.

What I had not expected was that the waters surrounding the Marcelli Family would be just as turbulent.

I sighed and made up my mind to leave Italy in another month. By then, Cassian should have forgotten me.

Sensing that I was beginning to relent, Ronan pulled an enormous bouquet of red roses from the car.

“Beautiful lady, may I take you to dinner?”

Red roses were my favorite flowers.

“Thank you.”

I accepted the bouquet and reached for the passenger door.

A car suddenly screeched to a stop at the curb. The door flew open, and a man rushed out and seized me.

“Evelina, I finally found you!”

Cassian looked overwhelmed, his voice thick with emotion.

“Come home with me. Please. We’ll remarry, and I’ll give you anything you want.”

“You wanted to go to Switzerland, didn’t you? I’ll take you on vacation. We can see the snow, chase the

northern lights-anything you want.”

I couldn’t believe my rotten luck. The sight of him made my skin crawl.

“You have the wrong woman, sir. Take your wife and son on vacation. You and I have nothing to do with each

other.”

I tried to wrench myself free, but he refused to release my wrist.

“Evelina, you’re still angry with me, aren’t you? I already divorced Nerina.”

He looked exhausted. Dark stubble covered his jaw, and deep shadows hung beneath his eyes. Nothing

remained of the polished, commanding Don he had once been.

“Since you left, I haven’t been able to eat or sleep. Every time I close my eyes, all I see is you. Evelina, I didn’t

understand how important you were to me until I lost you.”

“Have you forgotten all our good memories? Come back. We can be the way we were before.”

I opened my mouth to answer, but Ronan had already seized Cassian by the collar.

He hauled him away from me and threw him aside, then drew his gun and pressed the muzzle against

Cassian’s head.

“Shouting at a lady is hardly the behavior of a gentleman.”

“Evelina, would you like me to teach him some manners?”

Cassian stared at him in disbelief.

His

gaze shifted from Ronan to the roses in my arms, and whatever composure he had left shattered.

“Evelina, tell me who he is!”

“Evelina,” he pleaded, pain written across his face. “You wouldn’t really abandon me, would you?”
