He Asked Me to Pick a Bridesmaid Dress for Their Wedding Chapter 08

I went still and stared at him. “What do you mean, cared too much?” He nodded and closed his

eyes. “Spending all that time with you. I fell for you. I just didn’t realize it then.”

“Holly, I care about you. Too much. It messes with my clinical judgment. So my colleague’s

taking over. I’m not saying this to put pressure on you. I just want you to know, I’m not abandoning you. I’m stepping back because I don’t have a choice.”

I opened my mouth and nothing came out. I couldn’t believe Liam had feelings for me. Back

then, I was a mess. Screaming and hurting myself. Most people would call me crazy. Who falls for crazy? I didn’t know and didn’t ask. I pretended I hadn’t heard.

He didn’t bring it up again. But every time my new therapist came, Liam was there beside me.

Quiet and steady. With him around, I wasn’t scared and didn’t spiral. Days passed and we stayed the

same. But something shifted between us.

Dinner together, he’d put food on my plate. Watching movies, he’d pop a strawberry into my mouth. I was getting better and my heart was catching up. Just when I was ready to talk to him about

it, Ethan showed up.

He was thinner and wrecked. Standing outside Liam’s house, crying. “Holly. I found you. I’ve

been so worried.”

I frowned. “How did you find me?” He held up his phone. A transaction alert. Three days ago.

Groceries. I’d accidentally used his credit card.

I pinched the bridge of my nose. “If I remember right, I gave you divorce papers. We’re not married anymore, Ethan. Leave me alone.” My voice was ice.

He didn’t flinch. “I never signed them. You’re still my wife until I do.”

“Holly. I know the truth now.” He pulled up his sleeve. Ugly scarred skin. His voice cracked. “I didn’t know about the tattoo. But the second I found out? I had it removed. Immediately. I’m so

sorry. I cut Sierra off. She’s evil. She destroyed you and then she came for me. I want her dead.”

Every word out of his mouth was venom. Like he wanted Sierra to rot. But looking at him, I just felt sick. “Ethan. Sierra’s a bitch. But what does that make you?” My voice was flat, like I was reading a

weather report.

“You knew she was my friend and you still took the bait. She’s trash. But you? You snapped your fingers and dove right in. That’s worse.” My words cut and Ethan’s face twisted with shame. I

laughed. “Get out. I don’t want to see you.”
