He Asked Me to Pick a Bridesmaid Dress for Their Wedding Chapter 09

I turned to go. Ethan shoved through the gate and grabbed my wrist. Tears streamed down his face and his voice broke. “Holly. I know I screwed up. Please, don’t be so cruel to me.”

Cruel? I laughed in his face and ripped my arm away. My voice rose. “I’m cruel? You forced me to abort our baby. That wasn’t cruel? You climbed into bed with my best friend and planned to destroy me. That wasn’t cruel? You were heartless and you’re calling me cruel?”

Every memory detonated. Ethan stepped back. “Holly. Calm down.” I couldn’t. The wounds

were still open and I hated him. My scream cut through the walls. Liam burst out of the house.

He was behind me in a second with his arms around me. His hand covered my eyes and his voice

was low. “Holly. I’m here. It’s okay. You’re safe. Breathe.”

His warmth wrapped around me and my shaking eased. My voice still trembled. “Make him

leave. Liam. I don’t want to see him.”

He tucked my head against his chest and blocked everything out. I couldn’t see his face but I heard his voice, cold as death. “Mr. Cole. Get off my property.’

Ethan’s tone hardened and betrayal dripped from it. “Who the hell are you? Let go of my wife!”

My body seized at his voice and Liam soothed me. Then he spoke to Ethan with no mercy. “Ethan. Get out! Can’t you see what you’re doing to her?”

Ethan finally looked at me and his voice softened, uncertain. “Holly? What’s wrong?”

I clutched Liam’s shirt and clung to him. “I don’t want to see him.” Liam stroked my hair. “Go inside, okay? I’ll handle this.” I nodded and left without looking back. Ethan called my name but

Liam blocked him.

I was too far to hear. Inside, I watched through the window. They were fighting. Liam held his own and I stopped watching. After a while, he came in and knelt in front of me. “He won’t bother

you again.”

I saw the bruise on his face and my chest ached. He took my hand, gentle. “It’s fine. Doesn’t hurt. Want to check?” He pressed my palm to his cheek.

I felt his warmth and slid my hand around his neck. “Liam. Let’s do this.” He paused and then

wrapped his arms around me.

After that, I didn’t see Ethan again. Anonymous gifts showed up at Liam’s door. Soothing

things. Calming things. I knew who sent them and threw every one in the trash. It went on like that and I got better. Liam and I set a date.

On my wedding day, I was in my gown when a letter arrived. I knew the handwriting and opened it. [Holly. It’s Sierra. I heard you’re getting married. I had to write. Ethan was in a car accident and he’s in a coma. I’m trapped with Dwayne and every second is hell. Maybe this is karma.]

[I keep imagining, what if I’d never done it? What if I’d gotten help for my own sickness? Would we still be friends? But it’s too late. Holly. I know you hate me. But you were my only real friend. The most important person in my life.]

There was more. I didn’t read it. Liam took the paper from my hand and crumpled it. “Holly. Your life is yours now. The past is gone. Don’t let them touch you.”

I looked at him and smiled. I looped my arm through his. “You’re right. From now on, it’s my new life. With you, Liam.”
