He Asked Me to Pick a Bridesmaid Dress for Their Wedding Chapter 07

While Ethan lay drowning in regret, I landed in another city. My parents met me at the gate,

red-eyed and pushing a wheelchair.

Beside them stood someone I knew better than anyone. An airport attendant helped me into the

chair and I looked up, apologetic. “Dr. Adler. Sorry to drag you into this again.”

Liam Adler was my psychiatrist. A decade ago, after the assault, I was drowning. Depression. Mania. Bipolar. Dr. Adler took me into his home and guided me through every second. When I left

with Ethan, I went to say goodbye.

He looked at me like he wanted to say more. He hesitated and then nodded. “Don’t stop your meds. Avoid triggers. Holly. I believe you can do this.”

I gave him a weak smile. “I’m sorry, Dr. Adler. I failed.”

The moment I pressed a blade to Sierra’s throat, I knew I was spiraling. Jumping out a window. Stabbing her. I was in the middle of an episode. I wanted the whole world to burn. But I held back. I wouldn’t let two garbage people ruin my future.

Liam ruffled my hair with the same gentle voice. “You tried. That’s what matters. Your room is still there. Stay until you’re ready.”

/ I nodded and looked at my parents. They wiped their tears. “We’ll visit every day. You’re safe

with Dr. Adler.”

I tried to smile and make it easy for them. But I was exhausted. I passed out mid-sentence.. When I opened my eyes, I was in my old bed. Nothing had changed, like I’d never left. Except the doctor standing over me wasn’t Liam.

I gripped the sheets and forced myself to stay calm. “Where’s Dr. Adler?”

She smiled. “Dr. Adler’s busy. He asked me to check on you. Don’t worry. I won’t be long.”

I relaxed a little and let my guard down. Her voice was soft and we talked, casual. Time slipped.

Liam pushed open the door and I snapped back. My eyes darted between them and I took a breath. “Dr. Adler. Are you not treating me anymore?” I’d realized something. That conversation

with the new doctor, she’d seen too much and found the cracks.

She stood when I spoke. “I should get back to the office. You two chat.” I ignored her and just stared at Liam. He pulled up a chair and sat beside me. Long pause.

Then he met my eyes.

“Holly. I can’t be your doctor anymore.”

“Why? Is it that bad?” He shook his head and his gaze was painfully gentle.

“A psychiatrist doesn’t treat someone they care about. Emotions cloud judgment. Holly, that’s what happened last time. I cared too much and misread your state. I can’t make that mistake again.”
