World Cup Final Eve, I Blocked My Husband and His Childhood Sweetheart Chapter 05

The moment I pushed open the conference room door, I saw several of the company’s vice presidents

already seated around the table.

Clara Winslow sat among them.

To my surprise, Ethan Harrington was there too. He lounged on the leather sofa, his expression unreadable

as his eyes settled on me.

“Ms. Rhodes, have a seat.”

The HR Director’s face was grim. He slammed a thick stack of documents onto the conference table.

“We’ve received a formal whistleblower complaint accusing you of leaking Project Apollo’s confidential information to one of our competitors. These are the email records recovered from your company account, along with screenshots obtained from the competitor’s internal system.”

I frowned and flipped through the file.

The email had been sent at 10:00 p.m. the previous night.

The sender was indeed my corporate email account.

Attached were Project Apollo’s confidential budget proposal and its core creative strategy.

“I left the office at eight last night,” I said calmly, setting the file back on the table. “My laptop went home with

me.”

I looked directly at Clara.

“Miss Winslow, don’t you think this setup is a little too amateur?”

Clara’s eyes immediately reddened with tears. She turned toward Ethan, clearly expecting him to defend her.

“Vivian, I know you’re still angry because I replaced you on the project. But you can’t sabotage the company just to get revenge. Ethan invested fifty million dollars into Project Apollo!”

One of the vice presidents rapped his knuckles against the table.

“Vivian, the evidence is overwhelming. Stop making excuses. The company has decided to terminate your employment effective immediately.”

“We also reserve the right to pursue legal action. You’ll be liable for at least two million dollars in damages, and after this, you’ll never work in public relations again.”

The conference room fell into complete silence.

Every pair of eyes studied me as though I were already guilty.

Ethan rose from his seat and walked over to me, lowering his voice.

“Vivian, stop fighting this.”

“If you’ll just apologize to Clara and admit you made a stupid mistake, I’ll cover the entire two million dollars

myself. I’ll also smooth things over with the competitor so this won’t ruin your career.”

He looked at me with the kind of patronizing generosity only someone born with unlimited money could

afford.

“You’ll pay to make this disappear?”

I looked at him and suddenly found him both pathetic and laughable.

“Ethan, do you honestly think money lets you trample someone’s dignity, then buy it back afterward?”

Clara immediately jumped in.

“Ethan, you’re trying to help her and she doesn’t appreciate it! Someone who betrays her own company deserves to go to prison!”

The HR Director finally lost his patience.

“Ms. Rhodes, if you continue refusing to admit what you’ve done, we’ll be contacting the police immediately.”

The pressure in the room became almost suffocating.

Everyone waited for me to break.

Ethan rested a hand on my shoulder, his grip tightening.

“Vivian, I’m the only one who can save you. Don’t throw away your last chance.”

I quietly looked at him, then shrugged his hand off my shoulder.

“Really?”

A cold smile spread across my face as I reached into my pocket and pulled out a flash drive.

“Then maybe you should all take a look at what’s about to appear on that screen.”

I plugged the USB drive into the conference room’s presentation system and pressed the remote.

The projector flickered.

Security footage immediately filled the screen.

The timestamp read 9:30 p.m. the previous night.

A man wearing a baseball cap crept toward my workstation, constantly glancing over his shoulder.

He expertly bypassed my computer password, inserted his own flash drive, copied the project files, then sent the email everyone had just accused me of sending.

“I don’t think anyone here needs an introduction.”

I pointed to the man’s profile on the screen.

“That’s Leo Carter.”

“Miss Winslow’s personal assistant.”

The room erupted with sharp gasps.
