World Cup Final Eve, I Blocked My Husband and His Childhood Sweetheart Chapter 02

Looking at Ethan’s self-righteous expression as he defended Clara, I suddenly felt sick.

“Since the two of you are so innocent, then I wish you both a lifetime of happiness.”

I took out my phone and opened the text message screen.

“Ethan, I’ve already filed for divorce. The court notice should arrive at your company within the next few days.”

Ethan froze.

He clearly hadn’t expected me to actually go through with it.

He hurriedly reached for the phone in his pocket.

At that moment, his phone rang.

The screen displayed:

[Mom]

He answered.

And somehow, he accidentally turned on speakerphone.

Eleanor Harrington’s sharp voice immediately filled the air.

“Ethan, did you find that ungrateful woman? I knew she was just trying to manipulate you! Don’t spoil her. Let her come crawling back to New York herself!”

“A woman from our family should be staying home, supporting her husband and raising children, not running off to Miami to embarrass herself and ruin the Harrington family’s reputation!”

Ethan’s face changed.

He hurriedly tried to turn off the speaker, but pressed the wrong button instead.

Eleanor’s voice became even louder.

“If she doesn’t come back today and apologize properly, she can forget about ever entering the Harrington family again! Clara is so much more considerate. She even knows how to buy you gifts. What exactly does that Vivian have to offer?”

Clara lowered her head beside him.

But the corners of her lips curled upward slightly.

I let out a cold laugh and spoke directly toward the phone.

“Mrs. Harrington, don’t worry. The standards of the Harrington family are far too high for me. I clearly don’t belong in a family with values like yours.”

I paused.

“Your son and your beloved Clara make a perfect match. Please arrange their marriage registration soon. Don’t keep Miss Winslow waiting too long.”

The phone went completely silent.

Then Eleanor’s furious curses exploded from the other end.

I had no desire to listen anymore.

I turned around and walked toward the subway station.

Behind me, Ethan shouted my name.

“Vivian! If you leave today, don’t expect me to ever lower myself and come after you again!”

I didn’t turn around.

I simply raised my hand and waved.

“Good. I hope you keep your word. Don’t come back and disgust me again.”

Miami’s rainy season always arrived without warning.

On Monday morning, I walked into my new company’s conference room holding my onboarding documents.

This was one of the top public relations firms in the industry.

I had spent three full months preparing for this position.

I had barely taken my seat when the conference room door opened.

The HR director walked in with a welcoming smile beside another woman.

“Everyone, let me introduce someone new. This is our newly appointed Creative Director, Ms. Clara Winslow.”

My fingers tightened around my pen.

I slowly looked up.

And met Clara’s perfectly made-up face.

She was dressed in a professional suit, wearing high heels.

Her eyes were filled with open provocation.

“Hello, everyone. I look forward to working with all of you.”

Her gaze swept across the room.

Eventually, it landed on me.

A faint smile appeared on her lips.

“Especially you, Ms. Rhodes. It seems we’re old acquaintances.”

The employees exchanged confused glances.

They immediately sensed the tension in the room.

I calmly closed my notebook.

Ethan’s influence reached further than I thought.

To pave the way for his precious childhood friend, he had actually forced his way into my new company.

After the meeting ended, Clara walked straight to my desk.

She casually flipped through the project documents on my table.

“Ms. Rhodes, I heard you’re in charge of Project Apollo?”

“Coincidentally, Ethan is very interested in this project. He’s planning to invest fifty million dollars.”

Clara leaned closer and lowered her voice.

“However, Ethan said there’s only one condition for this investment.”

She tapped my desk lightly.

“The project must be placed entirely under my control.”

She smiled.

“So please hand over all your current materials, Ms. Rhodes. From now on, you’ll be assisting me.”
