He Divorced Me Six Years Ago Without Me Knowing Chapter 13

As Sophia thought about the six years of lies, it felt as if her heart were being carved apart inch by inch with a dull knife. The pain made her tremble.

She had believed Julian had turned down the Chief Judge appointment for her sake and sacrificed a brilliant future because of her.

That was why she had carried that guilt for years, taking care of him in every possible way, trying to make up for the career sacrifice she thought he had made.

But the truth had slapped her hard across the face.

Julian had let her spend six years like a fool inside a fake marriage.

She had thought she was being considerate when she quit her job for him and cooked for him with devotion. In the end, it had all been a joke.

“Sophia, you don’t understand. Claire was born out of wedlock.”

Julian looked at the pain on Sophia’s face, his own voice hoarse with anguish. “She didn’t want her child to be labeled illegitimate too. That was why I tricked you into the divorce. I only wanted to give the child a legitimate identity.”

“But I did care about you. After it happened, I didn’t dare tell you because I was afraid you’d leave me, so…”

“So you waited until I had quit my job and lost my income before you finally dared to tell me the truth.”

Sophia picked up where he left off. Her eyes were sharp as knives, and every word came with a sting. “Because you thought once I had no income and still had Grandma to support, I would have no choice but to

depend on you.”

For one brief second, Julian’s face flashed with the humiliation of being exposed.

Sophia let out a cold laugh. “Julian, don’t lie to me by saying you love me. It makes me sick.”

“You felt sorry for Claire because she was born out of wedlock, so you were willing to divorce me just to give

her and her child a legitimate status. But…”

She paused, her voice trembling slightly. “But you knew my mother’s death was the deepest wound in my grandmother’s heart. How could you stand in front of all those reporters and tell her I was the other woman who destroyed your family? How could you tell her to keep me in line?”

At the thought of how her grandmother had collapsed in anger that day, Sophia’s eyes instantly reddened.

Her body shook uncontrollably. Darkness swam before her eyes, and she could barely stand.

Thankfully, Ethan supported her in time and said quietly, “Sophia, don’t get upset. You were just discharged. Your body can’t handle this kind of emotional shock.”

“Sophia, are you all right?”

Seeing Sophia sway violently, Julian also rushed toward her and reached out his hand.

Sophia avoided him in disgust.

After taking several deep breaths, she barely managed to calm herself. Then she gave Ethan a reassuring smile. “Ethan, I’m fine. Let’s go home.”

“Which home are you going back to?”

When Julian saw her recoil from him as if he were poison, only to lean on Ethan with such gentle trust, anger surged through his chest.

He blocked their way, his voice turning colder. “Sophia, I’m sorry about your grandmother. But that day, I was already going to explain things to her. Everything that happened afterward only happened because you called those reporters.”

Sophia found his words absurd, but her eyes grew even redder.

She lifted her head and looked at Julian, saying each word clearly. “I did not call those reporters.”

Even now, whenever Sophia thought of that day, it felt as if a blade were slicing through her heart again and again, leaving her in so much pain she could barely breathe.

That day, she had gone to Julian to bring up the divorce, only to have rancid kitchen slop dumped all over her by a former client.

Then she had learned that Julian had tricked her into getting divorced six years earlier.

Worse still, public opinion had painted her as a shameless homewrecker everyone wanted to condemn.

Before she could even process it, she had received the call saying her grandmother had fainted. She had not

even had time to wash the filth off herself before rushing to the nursing home.

Later, Julian had arrived as well. Her grandmother had waited for him with so much hope, desperate for him to explain, but in front of a room full of reporters, he had personally admitted that Sophia was the other

woman.

That was how her grandmother had been driven to her death.

“Sophia…”

“Enough!”

Julian wanted to say more, but Sophia cut him off coldly.

She turned her face away, unwilling to look at him again. She only said to Ethan, “Ethan, let’s go. I don’t want

to see him.”

Ethan nodded and quickly guided her toward the car parked by the road.

But Julian chased after them and grabbed her arm again.

“Julian, stop pestering me…” Sophia broke off with a low cough.

The cold wind rushed into her throat, and with her emotions surging so violently, Sophia coughed twice. Seeing this, Ethan handed her the umbrella handle. Unable to hold back any longer, he punched Julian.

“Julian, you know Sophia just had an abortion and that her body is in terrible shape. Are you seriously still dragging her around in the rain?”

Julian staggered from the blow, anger flaring through him.

But the moment he heard the word “abortion,” it was as if every ounce of strength had been drained from him. The fist he had raised fell limply, leaving only grief in his eyes.

At that moment, Sophia slowly smiled at him.

“Julian, don’t worry. Even if you hadn’t come looking for me, I would have gone back to find you myself.”
